WIW: Tunic/Dress over pants - YouLookFab Forum

Hi lovely forum friends

It is officially autumn here - but still relatively warm.

I am in the stage of wearing all my "true summer" clothes one last time while I can - which is mostly my summer dresses which I prefer not layered.

I haven't worn this dress layered before - it has been a weekend/Friday work from home piece - perfect for errands or even throwing on top of a swimsuit.

The other new thing is mixing white and cream - I prefer off whites or chalky whites to optic white - but I do have these crisp white pants.

The only new thing to me is the cream beaded cuff purchased in an Op Shop/ Thrift shop last week.

Pants - Alibi - third season
Sandals and bag - Witchery 2016 and 2017

Should I wear this again or is it a failed experiment?

I like it! It has the potential to be “choppy” or stumpifying, but the white shoes really help to continue the line all the way to the floor.

I really like the white pants and the white striped dress. It's very light and summery. On my screen, the whites match. I suspect I wouldn't like the cream and white together if I could see it better. That's just my matchy-matchy personality though. I know others like that look.

I think it looks great. Really nice sandals and white pants. I also have a concerned feeling about white and cream together but have done it occasionally and happy with it. They go fine together here. I'm also frantically wearing my summer stuff while I still can!

Thanks Jenni - yes the weather is lovely again isn't it!! I felt okay about the white and cream - maybe because the shoes and dress were both the cream and the optic white in the middle?

Sara - I have resisted it in the past - and I tend towards off whites anyway - I didn't mind it in this casual look. It is like mixing ink blue and black and trying to make it look intentional...

Robin - it felt like a summer day - it was a hot one (for me). It is only since joining YLF that I have realised that spring and autumn were clothing seasons - I always used to have summer clothes (light pants, dresses, tees, short sleeves, sandals etc) and winter clothes (coats, jeans, woolens, boots etc) There was some overlap of course but often not in a very happy way. I now try and buy more for spring and autumn and not much for summer and winter because this way I get more value from my clothes... And as a result I have a better functioning wardrobe!! I might be a slow learner but also a different way I think that NZers think about the seasons.

Autumn,wow ,that feels strange as does seeing you in summer clothes whilst I sit here in snow but whatever ,you look lovely in your stripes,I would say that’s a winner.

I like it! This is a great look for the somewhat cooler weather. Wear again!

I like the idea of dress over pants or jeans but I generally find it hard to get the right weather for it (it’s either too hot or too cold).

Meanwhile, I have already broken out my boots. 24 yesterday and wet. That’ll do!

This is an outfit you should repeat. It looks fresh, cool and chic. The white sandals are the perfect compliment.

Brooklyn - I know, I did wonder about at one point whether I would have preferred to just wear the dress. I will wear this again but to make it a favourite I would need different components. A three quarter sleeve tunic would be more versatile and with pants work for a longer season climate wise.

Cardiff girl - it is weird sometimes seeing summery looks in mid winter and vice versa! It sounds like it has been very cold in the U.K. Recently - I have been to Cardiff - about 24 years ago!!

The dress looks fabulous with the white jeans. Clean and crisp.

I think it looks great! I really like white and cream mixes -- not challenging at all to my eye (found throughout my house in fact, lol). Great way to get more wear out of a tank dress.
