WIW: Trying to style this blazer

Hil

Yesterday I wore this outfit - didn't love it - I think I probably should have worn different jeans and heels or boots. Any comments or suggestions welcome!

I like it this way! I think you have great colors with the green and blue and the necklace in a contrast -- and the shoes look fine to me (I wear flats 95% of the time). I love blazers and this type of casual outfit would be something I would reach for on a regular basis. You look great to me.

I like this on you. You could try some ankle booties to see if that gives you more happiness with it.

Hil, what didn't you like about it? To my eye, it looks good. I like the green and the necklace, too. Maybe wedges or booties would have given it a different feel.

Top with some pattern. Maybe a floral hem. I think a focal point with more area so to speak (compared for example with a necklace) might make you feel more lively about the blazer.

I guess what I felt like was a bit... apple-top- heavy... Like I needed a boot leg and/or chunkier shoes or something to balance me out. But if you all say it looked good, maybe its just my perception and insecurities getting the best of me?

I love this look on you - it would look great with boots too.

Hil I have an applish shape too & I find that wider bottoms make me look chunkier than slimmer ones imo.

I like it and I don't think it makes you look apple-top-heavy. The blazer would create a nipped-in look around the waistline that would create a slimming line. And with the flats it's great - I don't see a need for heels.

I think the proportions work really well in your outfit Hil. The others have already made minor tweek suggestions which I agree with. I think you look great.

Well personally I love it. I wonder why you didn't. I like the colour contrast between blazer and tee, how the necklace playfully de-constructs what severity those two piece might produce, and how the jeans dresses the jacket down.

Hil, this looks great. Do you think it's just a matter of getti g used to seei g yourself in a more slender silhouette? I would need to add heels even though this looks prefect. I tend to feel I look better with a bit of height. I wonder if you might feel the same.

I think you might have nailed it Deborah - I am very out of my comfort zone in form fitting clothes - but a comfort zone is not really a good thing!

Sometimes I find that outfits that look good in photos don't feel good to me in real life. I think the feel of the clothes and the fit has a lot to do with it as previously mentioned or whether I feel the outfit is "my style".

Do you have someone you could ask if the outfit works? If so then it's your own comfort zone decision.

HIL -- I think this outfit has great proportions and vibrant, but easy use of color.
I wonder if you're "camouflage dressing?" --- dressing to hide what you perceive as flaws, instead of focusing on creating a good proportion overall and highlighting assets. We always see our flaws more than anyone else does.
