For whatever reason I'm loving the idea of jumpers plus turtlenecks this winter. Probably the cozy factor. I wore this black dress as a sleeveless dress when it was warmer, today I'm going to layer it with a merino turtleneck.

Personally, I don't think the color of these boots is working. The grey is too warm to wear with black. If I had a pair of tall black boots, I'd swap those in., But maybe that would be too dark. Thoughts?

I also like sleeveless dresses layered over turtlenecks, and I think that the combination is actually pretty trendy this season. I love your layers, but I agree with you about the boots: I would also prefer to see black or grey boots with this outfit. I don't think it looks bad though, it is more a matter of personal preference. Black boots would not have been too dark at all.

I don't know if it's the difference in monitors/screens or what, but these boots look almost brown. Now, brown does go with black, and grey goes with black, and they all go together because they're all neutrals and etcetera....

But I think you're into something. Maybe it's the stripes in the leggings/tights that's throwing the boot color off to my eye. I don't think the outfit looks bad, not at all. Maybe try a different pair of tights or leggings?

These boots are one of those weird in-between colors: not quite taupe and not quite grey. I'm such a sucker for this shade even though it's hard to work with. If I swapped in different tights -- navy or eggplant or burgundy -- they'd probably look fine. But these tights are warmer.

Also, part of the reason I'm trying this today is to decide whether I should add a pair of black knee-high boots. My old pair quit a couple years ago, and I've been on the fence about replacing. I could actually duplicate this pair in black for pretty cheap. And it looks like I'd actually use them.

I like the idea of a t neck under a jumper and this looks great with the patterned leggings. The boots you are considering will look wonderful with the outfit.

Oh boy I don't need more boots but I love those. How can I justify them...

Anyway, I do like this look but agree that it might be the tights that are off. I think they would look fine though with different color boots.

This is cute and I don't mind the boots that you are wearing with the outfit. The striped socks help. Black might be too dark.

I think you look adorable. And I agree with Joy... the boots you have on, combined with the fun striped socks, are perfectly fine with this outfit.

I like this look. I think I would also prefer black boots but it may be the tights that are throwing me off. But the stripes are fun.

Been planning to use this formula too. I say go for new black boots, but I do like this outfit as is.

I will say, lighter colored footwear (on myself) looks off about 75% of the time to me, and I think it's a bookending thing. I might try this combo again with a different top and tights to see if that helps. Also, off to order black boots.

I think you look very cute and warm. Black boots might have been better, but I don't think these look bad at all. Having black boots will be good with your dark hair. Bookending was a concept I'd never heard of, and it really does make an outfit look cohesive. My hair is quite light silvery grey, and so pewter works for me.

I love the layered look -- thanks for the reminder, since I do have one sweater dress (sleeveless) that I can do this with!

I agree about the boots and about that particular colour. It is so hard to work with, yet I am also a sucker for it. Oy.
