Thanks everyone! I wanted to comment on the earrings as I happen to really love this outfit and plan to repeat it, probably with the earrings.
The boys comments were more amusing to me than an annoyance, but it is unusual for them to comment so directly on what I am wearing so I did wonder if they could see something I was missing. I think Suz has it correct in that boys this age are prone to wearing black and grey, and then they throw in the occasional football or baseball logo sweatshirt or tee from their favorite team.
Oh, the earrings! You can't see in the picture but they are made of glass and they are translucent so they have both deep red and almost clear sections intermixed. I purchased them at a local art fair from a woman who went to my DD & DS High School. She had just graduated from art school at Alfred University and was home visiting her mother at the time of the fair. This was her very first art fair and she was just starting her business. I always like a story to go with something I purchase and when I wear them I think about her. I especially like the idea of supporting artists since my DD will graduate next year from art school and also plans to try supporting herself with her art. (A frightening prospect when you are the parent, and even more so when you are the artist starting out!)
