Today was a designated jeans day for fundraising. In my study of color I chose a tomato red turtleneck (because turtlenecks seem to be my thing this month). Many forum members mentioned wearing lighter color footwear to bookend my hair and I tried that today. Maybe today’s outfit didn’t need lighter booties, but I was eager to see how they looked.
First up was a J Crew faux fur vest. The vest is so cozy and feels like I am wearing a hug. Even though today was a jeans day, I thought the jeans and fur vest would be better suited to an evening sitting beside the fireplace enjoying yummy apps and a glass of Cabernet.
I was thinking about complimentary colors ( and yesterday’s post about cardigans vs. jackets) when I pulled the navy jacket on. Once I saw the jacket with the sweater I knew I had my outfit for the day. I added some jewelry and off I went.
What do you think about the tan boots and my attempt to bookend my hair? Comments on the two outfits? Does the shade of red have too much orange? I wonder if I need to wear more blue reds?

Wow! I love the red on you and like the orangey shade, but you need to experiment with shades of red to find your best one. The light bookending boots are fabulous. They also blend with your furry vest. My favorite outfit is #3 as I love a jacket with jeans, but the furry vest is fab on you. I look like a big emu in mine.

I love furry vests, but due to my shape (narrow shoulders) they do not love me back. On you, the vest is great and looks fab with the necklace.
The blue jacket + red sweater outfit is my personal favorite, it suits you so well. And the bracelets are really sweet.

Overall I like it (you’ve almost made me want to try a turtleneck). I love the boots and the jeans, they seem to fit so well. I don’t think the turtleneck is too orange, it just depends what kind of look you are going for. Conventionally it would be said that a cooler red is more suited to your complexion but I think half the fun is breaking all the rules. If I only ever wore the “soft light summer” pallet that is mine I’d get rather bored. I think either of the toppers works well too, and the accessories are good. I think whenever someone wears a faux fur topper they get extra points for glamour

Actually just one slight thing; if I may be so bold, if you did wear it with the fur vest you may not need to include the necklace as the colour of the top, the high turtleneck, hair down, plus furry vest may be enough happening there in that area. Just my 2 cents though.

Thanks, Joy! I am glad you think the color of the t-neck works. I really love the shade and am happy to think I can still sport it. Yay for the bookending boots! I was worried that they would make me look shorter, but when I acknowledge that I AM short and focus on the overall look, I can see how the lighter boots really do make a nice difference.

Thank you Katerina! I love the look of faux fur and had tried on many vests. As with any clothing item it sometimes takes a while to find the cut and style that works best. Most that I tried on were fab on a hanger and so not fab on me. I was so happy to discover the J Crew one! It came with a silk belt which was over the top amazing....on the hanger. With the belt the shape was all wrong on me. No worries. I very carefully removed the belt and found the vest to be a big happiness factor. The jade bracelet is another memory piece. It was my grandmother’s.

Haha Jussie! If you ever decide to wear a turtleneck, I want to see it! IKWYM about colors. Experimenting with colors outside the “best colors” is fun and with my new learning curve this is a great period of trial and error. I know that some days I am going to get it wrong, but I won’t know what really works until I try things out. I don’t mind bold comments at all. I appreciate them! It is so helpful to have input from others! I can stop and study my pictures, which is helping a lot, but it is incredibly valuable to have others make suggestions. We all see things through different lenses and others notice things that I do not. Ooh! Glam point for faux fur! That is a happiness factor for me! Thanks!

My phone is reading your turtleneck as pink so I can't comment on the color.
I have to say I really like the fur vest outfit , it looks perfectly proportioned on you and jeans Friday outfit to perfection.
Yay for the color blocking boots , they had interest to the outfits.

I think you look gorgeous. Like Celia, I don't trust my phone for color, but I'm seeing a coral-y red which looks terrific on you. After years of color analysis obsession, my best suggestion is, use it as a tool, not a rule Love the boots and the bookending. Beautiful.

I think you look great in the red sweater. I prefer it with the navy blazer, but it looks nice with the vest as well. It is really hard to judge the shade of red from pictures, so much depends on the lighting when you take the picture and how it displays on the screen.

You look great. Both outfits really look polished. The bookending works well, although the similar colours in the best and boots is more than just bookending.
I can’t tell wether the red is correct because the lighting is very yellow. It does look tomato red, which is a really fun colour. One of my favourites!

Both outfits are really nice! I love the fur vest with the boots, and the blue-red combo.

I echo others that it is tough to judge colors in photos bc of lighting etc. that said, in the first photo, I see the color of the turtleneck first which suggests that the shade is not quite right for you. But, when you add that third piece, either the fur vest or the blue jacket, I see you first, and it totally works.

The boots look great! I love both toppers with your outfit. I think I'll tell my husband that curling up by a fire with a fur vest and a glass of cab is our next date night idea!

I think the final outfit with the jacket works really well. The image of sitting by the fire with the glass of wine also works really well for me!

Thank you Celia, Torontogirl. Tanstaafl and smittie. I appreciate your kind comments. IKWYM. Lighting and monitors make such a huge difference and it is often hard to read the colors accurately. I Tia most pictures in the morning, before the sun is even up, so how colors look in the photos are going to look different in daylight and throughout the day, as well. Still, they do give me a point of reference. I am learning about so much more than color during this challenge. It is exciting, yet I need to remind myself to focus on my primary goals.

Sarah, you make an excellent point about if the color is what you notice first, it is not the right shade as is. Thank you for reminding me of that.

Oceandreams and Shevia, fur, a fireplace and a glass of cab seem like a nice combo, don’t they? My husband returns from a trip later today. I will have a roaring fire going and a glass of cab ready for him. Of course I will be wearing my fur vest outfit.

They both look great! I especially like the boots with the fuzzy vest. Hard to comment on colour because it's reading pinkish on my monitor, rather than tomato, but at a glance it looks like a good shade that works within your existing wardrobe. Reds are so tricky...

I was introduced to the idea of bookending on YLF. Once I was introduced to the concept, I have come to love it. Now bookending is my of my favorite fashion tricks. Did you like the look? In my mind, it pulls everything together into a coordinated package.

I love both looks, but I agree that Numbers 3 and 4 are the better choices for a fundraiser. Good job. YAY You.

WOW. i not usually a fur vest fan, but that outfit just looks FAB on you, love the way the boots not only bookend your hair but also the vest...i really like the blazer verision as well...and see why that was the pick for the fundraiser...but please find a reason to wear the fur vest outfit!

Thank you Cee, LaPed and Cardiff girl. The more I look at the picture with my boots and furry vest, the more I like it. I will be finding more places to wear it.

Sterling, kkards and Toban. Intentional bookending is brand new to me. As a former dark haired person, I wore mostly dark shoes in the winter, so bookending may have happened, but was not a planned part of my style. I am really happy with how the tan boots worked with my hair. I will be so much more conscious of bookending, especially as a way to lighten an otherwise dark outfit.

JAileen, thank you. I do have some pretty fab jewelry. Most of it has some kind of memory, or emotion attached to it, making me love it all the more.

Two fabulous outfits Mainelady. Very different vibes with a change of topper. That vest is great on you. And I love the tan boots, it really does tie everything together.
