WIW to the opera

I went to the opera this evening to see "Carmen" with a friend and here's what I wore. Not all too dressy, but I really don't have anything else that would have worked better. I think I need a dressy top. Or a LND. We bought our tickets at the box office and (as students) paid 13,50€ for 72€ seats. It was great!

(I just noticed the bag in #2 looks strange, I didn't wear it that way - but I didn't want to retake the picture.)

Cute outfitl! I love the opera, Carmen is excellent, you were so lucky to see it so cheap!!!
I think opera does call for a more dressy mood but in our days people are not so worried about it! You look great!

Thanks Natalia! I love it too and you're right, the price is great. It's always that cheap for the standard programm, but you can't choose the seats. This time we were lucky! I agree that I could have been more dressy, but it was alright. They were a lot of people who dressed more casual.

Gotta love those student prices! Carmen is a beautiful work -- great music, high drama and lush, full orchestration. And you're right, many people come dressed casually. No one should miss the opera because of wardrobe! Far better to go the opera in you usual outfits five times than to go once and buy a gown with the rest of the money!

This outfit is with your signature style -- love the pop of color in the cardi and the scarf.

So cute! I think this is appropriately dressy for a student, and honestly have seen so much worse for this type of event (I usually see the Symphony).

Oh, for student rates! And not even SRO (standing room only) but you got to sit! I'm glad you and your friend were able to take advantage of this opportunity and agree with Beth Ann. You're students who dressed up much more than the usual students I see, and this wasn't opening night when almost everyone dresses OTT.

I regularly go to the Seattle opera, mostly opening night. You look perfectly appropriate.

If you had to invest in an outfit for the opera then the tickets wouldn't be such a great deal. So cute and appropriate!

That's the great thing about being young. You can go to the opera or symphony dressed very casually and the fancy-pantsy people are impressed by the fact that a poor student is making time to go at all. ;o) I went to operas and plays and symphonies dressed much worse than that, trust me. Which is meant in no way to imply that you are dressed badly, not at all. You look great.

That dress is one of my all time favourites from your wardrobe Astrid. It looks stylish chic for a student going to an opera for sure. Really like it paired with that cardigan.

The coat and scarf are smashing on you.

Thanks Aida! And yes, I have too. The best thing was when we went to the symphony and next to us sat a guy and girl who were partly dressed in fetish wear. Well...

Thanks Donna! They also do SRO, but only if all seats are taken and we always go during the week to avoid that, it's not as crowded as it is on weekends.

Thanks Anna! That's good to know. I felt I was somewhat in the middle when I looked at the way other people were dressed.

Thanks Tracey! That's true. Although a dressier top might be a good thing to have all the same, also for other events. I could wear that with one of my skirts and I have shoes that are dressy enough, so I wouldn't have to buy anything else.

Thanks Freckles! It's one of the things I really like about being in Berlin as a student, the student rates. I also have an annual ticket to the big museums, I never would have bought that for normal price.
