WIW to the dentist and style musings

I bought this lace Joe Fresh tee when their shop first opened at JCP. The boyish cut keeps it from being too feminine, which I like, however this is the first time I've worn it since purchased two months ago. Not quite me. I find myself admiring outfits on others in the YLF forum and making style choices that aren't necessarily reflecting my style personality but someone else's. I need to find that fine line between admiring a trend or style and making it my own. I don't need to embrace something just because it's on trend. This is what I am trying to remind myself :).

That being said, I think this is a fine casual outfit, but doesn't quite ring true to me. Maybe I need to "get used to" wearing different textures, I am a pretty plain and simple gal when it comes down to it and I feel fussy in certain items. For example, I used to hate wearing button down shirts because they seemed too prim and fussy....now I love them and don't feel fussy at all when I wear a crisp button down.

Long post for a simple outfit. Thoughts or musings? All are welcome.

I really love this entire outfit on you, Missey. Adore the added texture through the lace tee, and the addition of a bit of pattern with the snakeskin loafers (beautiful!). To your point, perhaps it just takes a little getting used to, because to my eye this is a great example of a simple strong no-fuss outfit with beautiful unique detailing that is very subtle yet makes all the difference.

I love it, too! The T is great with added texture and the grey is a great colour. I also love the belt.

It can be difficult to tell sometimes whether we're stretching ourselves in a good way or just going too far outside our own style preferences. Angie has some great older posts on that subject. I'm not sure what the answer is, except continued experimentation.

It actually sounds as if you have a pretty clear idea of what you like but would also like to evolve your style a bit. That will inevitably involve a few "misses." But that's why the fashion gods invented Joe Fresh.

This outfit does look great. The feminine/masculine of the tee is really dead-on, but I can see the basic premise still feeling too fussy for someone. Maybe pants other than capris or boots would lower the frill quotient even further.

I agree with the others it's a great outfit & it is good to get out of our comfort zone from time to time. Just a suggestion but how would you feel with lower contrast shoes & belt? Maybe the texture is "enough" for you & should be the focus of your outfit.

This is a great looking outfit. Period. I think everything works just fine. That said, I know what you're talking about when something feel quite like it's you. Like Suz said, it requires some experimentation, and I don't think you can just skip over that part and magically discover your style-self.

I loved reading your musings because I can so relate. Keep up the good work. We can tell you what looks good, but only you can decide if it's your style.

Thanks ladies! Overall, I did like the outfit, I was thrown by the lace...just trying to figure out if lace is a look for me. As the day wore on, I became more comfortable with the top. I don't think I'll be buying any other lace pieces for now, but I will try to see what else can be done with this one!

I'm with Caro... I think the outfit might feel quite a bit better to you if you tried it with a rugged brown belt. The white looks great but it might not be the effect you are after.

I know what you mean - I automatically dislike, or don't prefer, some textures even though they look fine on other people. There are some stretch laces that just make me recoil, and the same with some nubbly boucles. The mysteries of the human mind. *shrug*

That said, I like your look; I think a lower contrast belt and shoe is a good idea if you wanted to make it a little less out of the box.
