WIW to see Ibsen - YouLookFab Forum

I'm going to see "The Wild Duck" By our great author Henrik Ibsen today! Yay! Can't wait, it's been ages since I saw a play. While going to the theater no longer requires the level of dressing up as it used to, I feel that a too casual outfit would be disrespectful.

My green BR dress is sleeveless, and I try to squeeze a little more Summer out of it, but I'm adding layers so the chillier wind today won't bother me.

#1: Green wrap dress (Banana Republic), silk/wool brown leopard print scarf (Morgan & Oates), burgundy hose (H&M), taupe leather jacket (BZR/Bruuns Bazar), brown leather booties (Pantanetti), burgundy leather bag (GREEN byTony Perotti).

#2: I also tried a version with black blazer (BR) and oxfords (Vagabond).

Which one do you prefer? Are the colored hose a good idea? Too matchy-matchy? Any styling suggestions are welcome, particularly on how to tie the scarf.

I pulled out my DSLR and my tripod to get better photos today. The colors are pretty accurate, but the red tends to be too bright. It is more brown IRL. Thanks for looking!

But if you want dressy may be the silver blazer version is better ???

Nice outfits too! I like it with the navy blazer, but I think I'd prefer it with different tights, ones that are lower contrast with the shoes.

You look lovely Ingunn! I'm partial to the taupe jacket, but the black one is nice too; it bookends your shoes nicely. That's a great way to winterize your dress.

You look funky Euro-chic in both outfits! I like both, as well. I might prefer the leather jacket one by a nose, but only a nose. With that one, I wonder about maybe lightening the tights a bit or making them coordinate more with the dress.

Though I am not opposed to coloured hose at times for a fun pop! And I actually like how they match your bag and bookend your hair.

You seem to be partial to the taupe jacket, and so am I. The black blazer is good, too, but I think I will change the hose if I wear that combination. The idea was to match it to the bag. My daughters who are 18 and 15 really liked the hose with the dress, and so be it then:)

Suz, I wish you could come along! Ibsen is very special, and my favorite playwright too, along with Jon Fosse. Do you know him? He's contemporary, but already regarded as the "new Ibsen". There is an Ibsen festival going on these days, and I'm going with a colleague to have a special teacher's show. After the play is finished, the actors will engage in a dialogue with us to explain the how's and why's of this particular show. It will be very useful to us when working with the students later.

Ingunn do you know Sept 5 is teachers day in India :)...
Teachers are highly respected and reverend in India so we have a special day for them

Isn't it fun to have a 'reason' to dress nicely! Here too, we can wear vary casual outfits ANYWHERE, but I love it when I choose to dress it up

Anyway, I much prefer the taupe leather and booties I know I'm pretty tonal, so it's less contrast than with the navy. That also means I'm opt for more tonal hosiery than colored tights. I'm not very adventurous in that area, so I could easily be out voted!

Isn't mai's scarf tying video great? She is adorable and what a nice produciton it turned out to be! I just need to capture a few favorite pics for myself and keep them in my closet - not on the computer. . .

You look fab in colored tights! I've never been able to get that to work for me. I prefer the grey jacket to the black but both are pretty amazing. I just slightly prefer the softness of the colors in 1. Gorgeous!

Now, this is how to wear colourred tights for grown up girls. Love the colours, in both, but preffer the first booties with!

I have now seen the play, and an Ibsen-text surely can be taken in many directions. Very different, very modernistic, and a lot of food for thought. I was appropriately dressed, too!
