WIW: To my new job - YouLookFab Forum

I've been spending a few days at my new office now and are starting to know my new co-workers a little. I'm working as a consultant and network manager at an institute that manages various project connected to ICT in education. My new colleagues are rather stylish and trendy, most of them, and the dress code is quite tricky: Smart casual or maybe business casual at times. I feel there's a creative vibe to it, and maybe arty, too in some cases. I hope I'm going to fit in.

Our weather is on the kind side right now, with a slight chill in the air, but still summery. Here's an outfit I wore yesterday, inspired by Angie's posts lately about tops for pencils and her gorgeous silk tee. Mine is quite different, but I quite liked this combination. I do think the skirt could have been a little on the longer side, though. What do you think? Is it too short?

Yay! the new booties have come out to play. I love your outfit Ingunn. Your skirt length looks ok, is it alright when you sit down? If so I wouldn't worry too much, you have good legs too I really like the denim over it all too, very nice! I'm sure you will fit into your new job just fine.

The length is great. You have nice legs and it is not too short. I too liked the grey boots. It looked more finished with the jacket.

Looks great to me, love the jacket and booties! I think the skirt length is OK (although I tend to worry about skirt length and have replaced some of my skirts with the next size up just so that they would sit lower on my waist). I can't imagine that you would have any trouble fitting in since you have a great sense of style.

Thanks Diane, you're too kind! I like the skirt when I stand, but it tends to crawl up a little when I walk, and also when I sit down. It is a little fuzzy.

Makrame, thanks! I remember when I bought it last Summer, the next size up was way too big on me. I could maybe squeeze another inch out of the hem, but there's not much fabric there. I think the skirt looks better with dark hose.

Rachy, the dress code is pretty casual there, and I feared to be overdressed. Here, that's a bigger fashion faux pas than being underdressed. The Norwegian dress code in most workplaces is far more casual than in the US. As long as some of the pieces are a little polished, it's ok.

Oh right! I forgot about your new job! Is this in addition to teaching, or a lateral move?

I think the outfit looks good. You look great in blues.

We just had a discussion on skirt lengths and booties the other day. When you get time you might want to look at it. Consensus was that for me, at least, the length you're wearing this skirt was good for booties -- OR a more tapered, longer skirt.

You look great Ingunn. The skirt is maybe a little shorter than ideal, but you look fantastic in it - and if the workplace is a more creative space, I think it's appropriate. Love your new booties too. How fun to have a new job and new office mates - I think you will be able to fit in wonderfully and probably have a great time creating new outfits to wear to work!

You've hit a perfect note here, I think you will fit in splendidly with the colleagues you've described. Your outfit is classic (so keeping to your own style) but modern and with some creative flair the way it's all combined. Also, I think the booties are creative as a more predictable business option would be pumps.

Suz, I'm definitely going to read your thread about skirt length - thank you for linking to it. This particular pencil is a matching suit with my black blazer, and I would rather not part with it yet.
