WIW to meet the temp agency rep

Thanks for the input yesterday -- I decided to go with a dress + jacket combo. It was freezing today, so I also had a cardigan on underneath my jacket. This is not the greatest photo but you get the idea -- grey dress, grey tights, grey shoes, B/W jacket, orange cardigan, multi-colored scarf, steel blue bag.

I'm not that happy with the scarf -- after I got on the train I realized that the colors aren't quite right for the cardigan or the bag. Oops. I didn't really want to wear black or a contrasting color tights, and I didn't have any decent nude tights on hand, so I ended up with these slightly shiny tights. A pattern might have been ok, perhaps a cable knit given the cold weather, but I thought this was an acceptable substitute. And I will keep an eye out for a scarf with a steely blue in the pattern, or a better match for the orange.

The meeting with the rep went well in any case -- she seemed pleased with my experience and seemed to think that she would be able to find me something. Fingers crossed! It would be nice to have a regular source of income for a change.

Ceit, you mean with my PhD? I'm done, got to wear the silly hat and everything. But I've been struggling to find a job either in archaeology or in anything else. Just too much competition in my part of the world, I guess.

Rachy, the scarf isn't too hugely different but the orange in the cardigan is a bit more pink than the orange in the scarf, and somehow it looked odd to me in person. It's probably just me -- I'm happy to mix all kinds of shades of teal blue, grey, and green, but somehow mixed shades of red and orange don't look right to me.

I have a bunch of friends working in London doing contract arch, but it does seem like a tough situation over there!

It is indeed -- not a lot of jobs to go around, especially if you aren't in the south. Hopefully things will improve soon!

Very crisp and professional. I think the scarf harmonizes well. Sometimes there is more "energy" in an outfit without complete matching.

I temped for a few years while doing a lot of singing -- it left me with a real paycheck and flexibility. My DH is a New Testament PhD, and graduated the year that posted openings dropped by 2/3. New Testament is about as hot an employment area and Archeology, so I feel you there! He's working online for a "real" university, and is supervising 20 other faculty, in addition to being full-time. Of course, there's no tenure or benefits, and he works by himself in a basement cubby. At least there is less of the old "office polotics!" We have to be go-getters in this new world!
