Thanks so much, ladies. Here is the update: he is feeling better with a stent in to drain bile build-up, but they are sending him to Seattle to be evaluated for getting on the transplant list. Alaska does not have the medical facilities for liver transplants, so they will have to relocate somewhere, most likely Seattle. Traci, they are looking into exactly what you've said as far as the lists and statistics.
GP, you've hit the nail on the head. I don't really understand how they triage the people who are in need, but there's that fine line between not sick enough and too sick, and the particular disease he has is so rare they don't even know how it plays out. They just did a biopsy to see if he has cancer which would mean he could not get a transplant.
It's just a bad situation all around, because my friend is also disabled with dystonia. They have a 15 year old daughter who's like a niece to me, and a son in college. Anyway, they are here with me though next week. Tomorrow we're all dressing up for the court award cerremony, which will be a fun distraction - my friend said she wants it to be a day of fun for her daughter before they get into the hard stuff...
I've never really believed before in the whole idea of people "sending good vibes" (though I try to do it for others) - but this forum truly gives me so much comfort and hope. Thank you!
