My defense was last Tuesday. I took everyone's advice and went much more casual - black trousers, and a blue silk and wool twinset from Eileen Fisher. This is not my best outfit ever - black trousers and colored top is boring, plus this shade of blue actually washes me out a bit. But it was just the ticket for the defense. I added a large amethyst pendant that was my mother's for sentimentality/luck.
The defense itself I guess went all right - they signed the papers and called me Dr. at any rate! They did want some revisions, so I've spent the last week frantically revising, and having hysterical phone conversations with my adviser (not at all typical for me), and at last it's DONE. Today I turned in the cotton copy (copy on cotton paper for library). Whew! I'm sitting here sipping bourbon and wondering what to do with myself.
