WIW to close out October - YouLookFab Forum

Lots of FFBO at the end of the month. I was feeling pretty creative at the beginning of the month but then work got crazy and I just gave up. I'm still trying to work my closet and did manage to wear one of my "regrets" (final sale) today. I ordered it thinking it was a midi when it was actually a maxi that could only be salvaged by shortening--which I did. I got lots of comments today--"whoa" "I saw you a mile away" "are you doing traffic control today" haha. I work with a bunch of comedians. I like the color but it's a lot of skirt. I'm going to try it with a welted sweater next--not sure it will work but worth a try. Suggestions welcome.

The oldest item here is the floral sweatshirt that must be almost 6 or 7 years old by now. It was one of my first YLF inspired purchases--Angie did a post on fancy sweatshirts and I got on that train! There's also the handknit poncho from back in the SAHM days so that's probably 10. They may not look trendy but I do think they suit my style...

If you picked off the bottom ruffle of the red skirt (so that it was 2 layers) would it fall to the knee? That might be a good length for a sporty/casual look with white sneakers and a variety of tops. I like the idea of the denim topper, but over a lighter (white?) t-shirt. Pale blue ‘goes well’ with red. Don’t you have a pale blue denim vest?

The green dress is just so d@%$ good anyway you style it. ❤️s for the poncho look!

Red skirt is a fun piece. Sometimes it's what we need in our daily life - something bold and beautiful and totally unexpected .

Thanks, Carla! I hacked about 5" already. Next stop will be the whole bottom tier. I kind of like the midi length though and will try it a few more times before shortening it again. It was so floofy and fun to wear--on a super casual Friday!

@slimcat: Thank you! I totally agree. It's out there and I wouldn't have worn this pre-Covid. Nowadays, I'm just having fun where I can get it!

@Rachy: grey and burgundy were pairings I liked on Pinterest. I think the grey has a better chance of success considering the summer feel of the skirt. Thanks for the suggestion!

I like your red skirt. It is a bold statement, so bright colour is often commented on. I think this would be fun to wear with with a floral print and strappy sandals in summer.

That green dress is all sorts of wonderful on you. All other outfits are fabulous too and have your signature casual elegance. I love that so many of your items have gone the distance.

Mad love for all of your outfits! I like the skirt, and agree that a welted top will temper it. What about another bright color on top for a whole column of bright? Or, is that too much?

Ok, I’m going to make a really out there suggestion re the red skirt (which i love the length of BTW)....i would go column of color with a red top, (in for a penny in for a pound), or go 80s with a pink top...or maybe a chambray shirt, something lighter so that the red is less pop of color.
I love the poncho, it looks warm and cozy and the color is fab...

All of your outfits look great. Maybe try a lighter color top with the red skirt and add an accessory with red in it, like a scarf? My favorite is the green dress - extra fabulous.

The red skirt is great. I would prefer to see it with a brighter top. Do you have something purple? I think a sort of bright colour block effect would work well.

I love all the outfit--I like the different colors and styles on you, yet there is a consistency throughout. Hard to pick a favorite this time, but I do love that dress in #2 on you, especially with the long topper.

Thanks for the helpful suggestions! I need to remember Angie's lesson about not buying a skirt unless you get a top at the same time or know what will work. I blame it on the virus!

Thanks, Bijou! I’m a pretty sedate dresser so anything bright or slightly out of the ordinary can draw comments. I agree that it will be a great summer skirt--with sandals!

@Nemosmom: and Kkards: Thank you! The welted sweater will work--I have some brights but they’re v-neck and I think it would look best with a crew neck. I will have to play around with it but I love this idea! I don’t think I could tuck the chambray--the top part of the skirt is not very forgiving.
