WIW: to brunch and shopping - YouLookFab Forum

I wore this outfit yesterday on my day off, to have brunch with a friend and then do some shopping. (This is the shopping trip I came home with the harem pants. Maybe the difference in looks is, or should be, instructive for me? hmmm, style coherence?)
Anyway, this is kind of a FFBO for me, despite the fact that I've been wanting to wear looser jeans and pants lately. The FFBO portioin is gray tee and skinnies, topped by one of my long sweaters, accessorized with some combo of belt and necklace and anchored with booties.

1: gray coated denim leggings (AG), gray tone on tone scroll-patterned tee (made by me), long slate-blue/gray and cream striped sweater (Eddie Bauer), silver floral cutout belt (Fossil), graphite booties (Paul Green), silvery bib necklace.

2: outfit above with brown & gray wool coat (made by me), gray gloves in a thin, cozy knit (Jeanne Simmons), gray bag (Aunts & Uncles)

What a gorgeous coat. The outfit is great, too, but I hear you absolutely on wanting not to wear leggings as much. I wore mine as part of our no-repeat November challenge and I'm just not "feeling" them as much these days. Oh well. For winter (tucked into boots) they are still pretty useful. And you look darned good in yours.

I'm agog over your sewing skills. I want to be able to do this someday. Don't have the time to spend sewing right now. My daydream is to take classes with my daughter when she gets big enough. But since it's my daydream she'll probably run screaming from something like that when the time comes.

I really like all the components of the outfit. Have you considered untucking the shirt? I see a lot of hard horizontal lines in the outfit - the belt, the cuffs, the boots. I think taking the belt out of the equation would really add some fluidity and match the softness of the cardi.

This is such a great outfit, all of the textures make it so interesting! That coat is stunning. :O The fabric complements you perfectly!

Alexandra, the pattern is the Zig Zag Shirt and Pants from The Sewing Workshop. Looks like it has been discontinued, but here's the gallery page with photos of the pattern made up. I lengthened the shirt pattern to coat length, lined it, and added slanted oversized-welt pockets to the front.

So loving this. Those coated leggings really add a lot to this outfit. I think tone-on-tone outfits are a lot harder than people realize because you have to add great textures, shapes, jewellery, etc and you just do it perfectly. And of course, that coat is incredible. I like the 60s vibe.
