WIW: To a Ukelele Concert

We went to an outdoor Jake Shimabukuro ukulele concert last night. He is an extreme virtuoso, and also fun to watch and hear. His encore was Bohemian Rhapsody!

WIW: I’m sorry I’m kind of ratty looking in this picture. I took it after we got home. I had bought the wild pants, thinking of this upcoming concert. However, we’re in our second week of a vicious heat wave, and I could couldn’t bring myself to wear them. So I wore these Lee cotton crops, sleeveless Eddie Bauer top, and Bernardo sandals. It got to 104 yesterday, and was still in the upper 90s when the concert started. This heat wave apparently has no end. Today should be cooler, only 97.

Jenni, thank you. We’re lucky that our town has a month long arts festival in the summer. It encompasses all kinds of arts. This concert was part of it, as were the concerts we went to last year, Randy Newman and the blue grass band, the Steel Drivers. Last year we weren’t having a heat wave, I don’t think.

Wow, 97...I think that climate is not for me. I haven't heard the ukulele played live.

I look forward to seeing you in your pants, but good call to wear cotton crops, and you looked cool. The Bernando sandals are super.

You have my sympathy. There's a heat wave here too, but not as high as yours.

Jane, Thank you. If you have the chance to see Jake Shimobukuro, take it! In the past, my only experience with the ukulele was hearing Tiny Tim and Arthur Godfrey. Neither were inspiring to me. Jake S is very inspiring.

The Cat, thank you. I saw that London was having a heat wave and that the temperature was 79. What?!!! Our normal high temperature for this time of year is 90. It actually isn’t bad considering the low humidity. But 104 is like an oven.

Kkards, thank you. The musicians were all wearing jeans and sneakers. I wondered about their outfits, too. My husband wore cargo shorts and Keen sandals.

I was expecting a Hawaiian ensemble, maybe a grass skirt to sway with the music. you need to pattern mix a bird-of-paradise print top with those crazy wild pants.

Very cute and completely in tuned with the concert vibe! I love your sandals here, they are so simple and elegant. I certainly is the perfect outfit for a night out during a heat wave, and you managed to look hip to boot.

Joy, I asked my husband why he didn’t wear a Hawaiian shirt. He said he was already wearing a shirt for hot weather. Jake S wasn’t wearing a Hawaiian shirt either. Although he grew up in Hawaii, his music isn’t really Hawaiian. He did play a couple Hawaiian pieces, but I didn’t recognize them.
