I returned my Athleta breeze shorts for poor fit and picked up these Roxy ones for a mere $10 at Ross yesterday. They are about half size too big as well, but for $10 I can overlook that, not for $50!
I like the tie up back and the laces have little striped caps on the ends that you can't see in the pic. Anyway, nothing special for sure, but this is in the vein of the reality of everyday casual outfits. Off for some sun and raft time on the lake!

Are there running or swimming shorts? Just curious! They are short! I think I would feel self conscious out and about in them if it wasn't on the beach.

Super cute! I love the shorts and envy your rafting time. The tie at back reminds me of Navy sailor pants - nice nod to the ocean by Roxy. I am high fiving you for not neglecting your "gear" capsule - that means you get to look good all the time!

Thanks Rae! Yeah, about 1/3 of my social life involves gear - might as well like it!
Zap, no they are made with the tie up back, 2 snaps in front. I kinda like the fun detail.
Modgirl, they're board shorts, like what you would wear to surf or raft, you know? Long inseam would just get in the way and bunch up in one's crotch (not comfortable!).

I get the feeling I am one of the few with a social gear capsule lol. I am NOT the gal in the shade with a cute, but non play friendly, outfit on. I am hiking, and biking, and swimming and rafting and any 'ing' I can get into! I think for those who are gym goers, they see 'workout outfits' and regular clothes. If you live an active life, the line isn't quite so clear cut. As far as this goes, I'd rather be more active than more fashionable any day.

I can understand this completely - I am not as outdoorsey as you, but I sometimes have to do a fairly decent "hike" to get up to the baseball stadium (we hardly ever pay for parking, and Dodger stadium is up a big hill away from the city), and the swap meets involve lots of bending, lifting, hauling, and walking... but then we might go out to dinner on the way to a game or catch a movie after the swap meet. No time to change from "gear" to "nice" clothes.

I think it is smart to think about the activities that you actually do in your life and dress as needed without hesitation. Shorts look great - worth duplicating eventually maybe?

They are perfect board shorts! I can see why you love them for rafting. I live in the city so there is not much time for outdoor recreation. My outdoors capsule is cutoffs, cute tanks and old sneaks that I don't mind getting muddy.

Really? For a moment I thought they were backwards and I thought it was brilliant. I have very similar shorts that I use for camping, which I am definitely wearing backwards from now on. The back detail you have is in the front, whereas the back on mine is completely unadorned.

I hear you on your need for sport- friendly items. I actually have stuff like this for camping. You gotta build your wardrobe in accordance to your needs, right?

What I find very unique about you Mo, is that the places you have lived ( FL and now Tahoe) are more laid back and relaxed in comparison to what we are accustomed here. I think you dress very well for your environment and lifestyle. Also, you have stayed very true to yourself throughout the process. Thumbs up from me!

I too have a gear capsule, but believe me when I say that mine is much less stylish, and I look much less fab than you do!!

Thanks ladies! I do realize, Zap and Modgirl, that the average YLF er is likely a city dweller (or at least the suburbs) and my outdoorsy lifestyle is not the target audience. I think Una has mentioned not even posting half of her day to day casual looks. But I do think that if I socialize this way, I'd like to look decent doing it!
Zap, why not turn your shorts around?! I have had the regular front tie before as well, but I agree this twist is just fun!

Mo you have some of the best gear! I always enjoy when you post gear outfit photos, because this is an area I need to improve for myself and I find your outdoorsy outfits really inspiring. I'm outdoors a lot in the summer, and currently making do with various pieces from my wardrobe but of course that doesn't always feel quite right
