WIW: Thrifted colorblock AND this Trouve navy leather jacket?

I thrifted this BR dress a while back... I really like it though it's a bit different for me.

And here's the infamous Trouve navy leather jacket on me. Let's NOT compare it to the Theory leather jacket, which is a totally different animal IMHO. I can see it doesn't match with the dress, but this gives you an idea of the fit on me. The sleeves are too long and I've tucked them under, but the shoulders fit, though I could probably also size down. I see I've got the sleeve a bit twisted too.

I feel a bit like Jonesy here!

Thoughts? I am planning to play with it later tonight but am curious about initial impressions! And it's another learning curve.

I really like this, Una! The dress is simple chic, and I like it with those shoes. The jacket is dreamy, and I really dig those floppy panels in front. The blues look good together on my monitor, for the record. Good shoulder seams, Angie would be proud.

#1. I love that dress, both in general, and on you, and I want to know why MY thrift store does not carry such treasures. No fair.

#2. I have mixed feelings about the jacket. So far, I'm liking it better on you than I did on K can Shop and Denise (with no offence to them!!) BUT I am wondering if that is partly because they were trying it on with very high contrast, light coloured tops, whereas you have a similar toned outfit, which, despite not "going" might disguise proportion issues to some extent.

I am also not crazy about the folds...it reminds me a bit of a waterfall cardigan. And they sort of disguise the waist area. But perhaps I am expecting the ridiculous.

I WAY prefer the Theory on you. I know they are two different creatures, though. So this might fill a different need.

I am not a fan of this jacket on you. It's a beautiful jacket, but I find the panels add weight across your middle and just look blocky and heavy. It also looks a little long, like it is swamping your hip.

Perhaps with a different outfit under it. I love that dress on you, it is so fun.

First off, absolutely LOVE this dress on you! The fit and colours are perfect. I love the colour of the jacket and the fit on the shoulders looks fantastic. There's something slightly "heavy" about the draped portion in the front. FWIW I like the mismatched blues.

I love these colours on you and the dress is absolutely lovely. I have to agree with Shannon on the jacket - love the colour, but the drape part is giving me pause for thought.

LOVE the dress - absolutely fab!

I like the jacket, too, so far - but I'd like to reserve judgement. I Like the way the drapes draw the eye down and to the center. I think it's really slimming in the shoulders. I'd like to see it with more outfits, though. My suspicion is that this might work on you where it didn't work on K and Denise, because for you the low stance drawing attention away from the waist and more towards the hips might be a good thing. Might we see it with skinnies?

Love love love the dress on you. I like the mismatched blues with the jacket too. The jacket may be just a bit long with the dress but, in general, I'm a fan.

For sure, Rae! My plan was to try it with grey skinnies. Any hints for specific styling would be great. I know your white Bebe jacket is a similar cut, and I need to see it again on you. I thought I had a poison eye for these flaps, but I'm thinking it was really my issue with white.

Anyway, I love the feel of this jacket, but I need it to look great too. I know several people said it's for tall gals, and I'm only 5'1"! I do think my giant shoulders actually work to my advantage here, though.

Eeeee..... I LOVE the dress!!! Different and unexpected is fab in my book!

About the jacket... I see definite potential. I think you need to go with a lower neckline for the underlayer. I am wondering about bottoms though, would it work with the BF's? Also, you wear lots of tunics and longer tops. The length of the jacket might be a bit tricky to pair. As you say, you need to play around a bit.

I don't think the jacket works too good with this dress, however.

Conclusion: I see definite potential but I need to see more outfits.

Love your thrifted color block! Simple, but you make it look so good.

On the jacket, Suz said exactly what I was thinking. My first thought was, well, definitely much nicer on you than on me. Second thought was, hmmm, not fabulous. I know the panels look good in person, but I don't think they photograph well. That probably explains some of the lukewarmness toward this jacket on the forum. I definitely reserve final judgment until styling.

KCS, I agree - this jacket is all about motion (as opposed to the Theory one, which is much stiffer in persona). I actually like how it looks in the mirror. This is not the best styling of it, as the dress is kind of a stand-alone item.

I really like the Trouve jacket on you! It looked really awful on me. Well, the dressing room photos didn't help at all.

And the colorblock dress is a class act on you and so on-trend for this fall.

Awesome dress - what a great find! I actually really like the jacket as well - and I like the jacket and dress together, though it might look different in real life. I think the varied blues are pretty chic.

I like the fit of the jacket on you.I am just thinking if it isn't a bit soft for you. Maybe I am used to see you wearing more structured things and this one seems more flowy.Then again I might be wrong.

Wow - you're only 5'1"?! I always thought you were tall based on your pictures! I think the dress is great and the jacket looks good too. I have to admit, it looks a little long to me too, but I would like to see it styled differently and maybe a different camera angle. I suspect the back and sides aren't as long as the front and it probably looks fine from a different angle.

Just posted the jacket in a size down and with a different outfit. I need to get creative with it if I keep it, but it's a direction I want to go, so I'm not cranky about it.
