WIW: The dreaded maxi dress!

I love maxis! But I am increasingly starting to think it isn't my style!

So your honest opinions would matter a lot in deciding if I and my beloved maxis should part ways! Not that I have a massive collection .... so it wouldn't be that hard!

I like this maxi as is but I needed some extra coverage due to the plunging back. So I teamed it with my studded faux leather vest. Do the studs and prints clash? I don't seem to love the outfit today. I have kept everything else simple. White strappy flat sandals and black handbag. I am heading out anyways in this ... but will come back to see if I looked like a total fail today

I don't love to see the maxi paired with the leather jacket, it's a boho/rock strange mix. Maybe with a denin jacket.
I find maxi dresses difficult to wear, but it's not a total fail.

Yep thought as much! I removed the jacket anyway as it was steaming hot outside! A third piece just seems so elusive in this place I live. Thankfully I didnt walk around with that in the mall! LOL!

Sometimes my brains just fail me!

ETA: I think a black tee over the maxi might have given me the necessary coverage and yet looked less frumpy and weird. Argh ..... hindsight and all! My denim jacket is long sleeved and I might have melted in it in the heat! I think a denim vest should be in my wishlist.

I love the print of the dress, but I think it lacks shape. The vest is also quite a boxy shape, so I don't think that helps.

How does it go if you wear a belt? What about with heels? Would a necklace or even a scarf help? (A lightweight scarf could also help with coverage without feeling like "too much"). You could try a chunky necklace that sits above the neckline of the dress, or a longer, pendant style - either just give it the "oomph" that I think it needs.

I've given up on maxi dresses for me, so my advice might be totally useless! I have a quite boxy shape, and even though I am tall, I just feel swamped in them, and don't find them flattering at all.

Worth playing if you love the dresses - you may come up with a workable solution. If not, you could hem them shorter and wear them as midis

I think I would restyle this maxi another day and post it. I love the print too. I guess my styling is just rubbish in this outfit. Would try again when my brains start to work and then decide if the dress should go the chopping route!

I think the dress is great - but I do think you need to do some work styling it. It looks like you might walk on the hem - is it too long? What about with taller shoes, or maybe hem it? It looks boxy. What about with a very short shrug or a soft sweater/shirt/jacket that ties under your breasts? Or a belt to give you some waist definition? I wouldn't give up on the dress just yet because it is really cute.Vickie
