WIW: Tan fall ensemble + hair advice needed

I apologize for not beeing very active on the forum, unfortunately life has taken over.
This is my outfit for today, based on latest Angie's ensemble.
I would really appreciate any advice you can give me related to my hair. As you can see it is getting pretty long. I am not really happy with it at the moment and I rearly wear it down like this. On most days it is up in a messy bun. I have no inspiration what to do with it, but I am open to all suggestions. Maybe I can post more pictures if you don't see it clearly enough.

You look great. I like the grey cardigan over the white top ...the drape is gorgeous. I also think your hair looks good at that length....it would be versatile being able to put it up etc.

Archie I think you look beautiful - I especially love your hair! However, it is always great to have a change and if you feel like you need a change in your hair, then you should do it.

When I feel like a change, I tend to grab a few of the latest magazines and pull out pictures that I like and then put them all together to work out what it was that appealed to me. You need to assess whether the styles that you like will work with your hair and be realistic about the amount of time you are willing to style your hair.

Sometimes it is not a drastic change that is required to make you feel fresh. I also like to change up the colours of my make-up with the change in season or even to co-ordinate with the clothes I am wearing.

Thank you Sally. I am more of a blazer girl but I do love this cardigan because of its drape. You are right that this length is versatile, I love to be able to just put it up when I don't have time for doing much with it.

Bijou, thank you for the nice compliment. Yes, I do feel like change but I am not very inspired at the moment and I am not sure what style would look nice on me. Specially because of my gray/silver hair color, I have to be very careful what hairstyle to choose to not to look older than I feel

Why not treat yourself to a trim and a blow out? Have a conversation with the stylist about what is trending, and then just think about it until you are sure you want to go forward with a change. Natural, air dried hair with a bit of bend/wave seems 'in' and you seem to have the perfect length for it.

that is a good idea runcarla... problem is I don't really have a stylist that I trust, that is also reason why I am hesitating. But I can "test drive" stylist with a small change and then think about bigger one.

Anchie, you look fabulous, as always. Your hair has grown A LOT since you were last posting WIWs!
When my hair gets too long, up it goes into a bun, and my polished appearance goes up in smoke.

I like the long bob as a way to force myself to keep styling my hair -- but I'm very far from a hair expert!

I love your outfit, the drape in the top, the jacket, pants length....all gorgeous. The bright pop of colour in the bag is perfect.

I like your hair the way it is, but I understand the need for change sometimes. Pinterest could give you some inspiration.

I like the idea of trying out a stylist with small changes. I think a trim and shape up will feel great, allowing you to keep your updo during warm months, and giving you some time to think about whether you want a bigger shift in your look.

Your proportions are perfect in your outfit. The crop flares and the bright bag give the cozy cardi a bit of pop.

Thanks smittie. I have a feeling that it is getting too long and that is the reason why I usually keep it up now. Just today I got "complement" from a male colleague that I look like a teacher in Hogwarts. Is my long gray hair starting to look "witch-y"?

CocoCat, this is nice of you to say. I was searching in Pinterest for some inspiration but I am all over the place. One day I want to cat it really short, like Suz, and the other day I want to grow it even longer. That is why I asked you guys for some directions and inspirations.

Beth Ann, thank you. I will most likely just go for a little trim and styling. And see if the stylist tries to convince me into coloring - that will be the sign if we are good match or not

I need smooth

hair for work hence a French twist. On a good day I use five hair pins and on other days I use six. My hair is just touching my shoulders.

Thanks ecteacher0000. I will try that too, looks much more polished than my usual messy up do. Just need to get some equipment and some practice Sometimes I feel like having two left hands when doing my own hair

What a beautiful outfit .I love how the neutrals play with your beautiful hair and the pop of colour bag is the perfect finishing touch.

Your hair looks spectacular to me, and I think your colleague is off his rocker and rude, but I also get the need for a change at times. Perhaps it really is just as simple as a trim. However, if you trust your stylist, perhaps you can mention that you're feeling a bit bored and/ or concerned that the cut isn't giving the impression you want to convey. I see "sophisticated woman" and not "Hogwarts teacher" (not that those are necessarily mutually exclusive, mind you!) but now that I have gone grey myself I really understand the need for the best cut possible!

thank you suz, for your very toughtfull answer (as always). I don't really have a stylist, I was going to random salons over the years, never fully satisfied. And always hoping to find 'the one'. Including couple of nightmare expiriences. When I decided to stop coloring I took your route. Went to a salon and asked for a very short pixie which will remove most of my colored hair. I had shoulder lenght hair at that time. Stylist first asked me if I am sure at least 3 times, and then also asked me to promise that I will not cry or be angry at her if she does what I asked. Imagine. But except for the initial shock, I was happy with the very short hair, and got tons of compliments.

Glad you started this thread, anchie, as my hair is the longest it's been in years and I'm not sure it looks good. But when I had a bob (for almost two decades) it was literally a daily fight against my hair's natural texture to get it to look right, and I feel so over that.

adelfa, that something I have been thinking about. When is the hair becoming too long and starts to cross the line from sophisticated to witch like, or just unflattering.?? Specially if you are little bit older ( i am 47 today) you have to be even more careful. Older women with long gray hair are not really norm arround here.

My first thought for your hair is just to do a simple blunt cut to the shoulders with maybe a little extra length in the front for some swing.

Lovely outfit, nice belt. I like RunCarla's suggestion too, of a trim and blow dry and see how you get on. I did this 4 years ago with a local hairdresser and I haven't changed since (despite changing many times prior to that)>

Anchie, you look beautiful. It's a lovely outfit with lovely drape and proportions.

Your hair is lovely as is, though I do like AviahMariah's idea for a blunt cut bob...as she suggested shoulder length would be great. No need to go shorter than that as you could still have the tie up option.

I'm also a wash and go who has a tough time styling my hair. A few years ago when my hair was close to the length of yours I bought little twisty hair rollers at the drug store. I'd get my hair almost dry and put in the rollers for the last bit of drying/my ride to work. When I hit the parking lot I'd pull out the rollers and have nice beachy waves for about 3 minutes of effort. The waves felt a little more done and discouraged me from pulling it up into an elastic all the time.

Another idea you could consider is bangs. With bangs a messy bun feels much more like a style than a convenience, if that makes sense? I think a full bang would look amazing with your length and color and face.

I had the same thought as AviahMariah - just take it back up to the shoulders to eliminate any boho...but you really have beautiful hair!!

anchie, it depends on your hair. I have a similar style (alas, without the beautiful silver shade) but with more layers and it's low-maintenance for my thick, wavy hair. I just put in a bit of gel or mousse and go. But I do need to make sure to keep up my trims every 6 weeks. I do think your hair is lovely as is but if you are ready for a change, that looks like it would flatter you. It seems like a good suggestion to just get a trim and style until you find a stylist you really click with.
