WIW: Summery Navy and White

Navy and white seems summery to me. Today’s forecast: 98. This summer is the hottest we’ve ever had - most number of days over 90 (around 50, I think) and most number of days over 100 (19 so far).

1. For church: Vince Camuto top, white denim skirt from Macy’s, Sak bag, Bernardo sandals. Refreshments after church included ice cream sandwiches and popsicles. I remember spilling grape juice on this skirt last time I wore it, so I passed.

2-3. For neighborhood block party: Eddie Bauer top, shorts from Kohl’s, Bernardo sandals.

4. What I made for the block party: peach salad with homegrown peaches and basil, feta, and vinaigrette. We’ve had a great peach crop this year.

Love the look of navy and white for August. Crisp and clean. I want to copy your white and navy if it warms up.

We are getting an early peach crop this year in Colorado. I love the peach salad. and want to make some although too many carbs for me to eat more than a tiny taste, but the rest can enjoy it.

When I got up this morning it was 53 here, so have been needing a topper in the mornings for church. It has snowed in the mountains already and some places are gearing up for an early ski season.

I like the white and navy for you . Not everyone looks great in white shorts - but you do And I can’t even imagine living where peaches grow on trees.....sigh . I want to make that salad !

I agree that navy and white make for a very summery combination, and you’ve nailed it! That peach salad looks wonderful. We had a late freeze so no peach crop this year.

Joy, thank you. Our forecast for next week has lows finally dipping into the 50s. I’m looking forward to cooler temps. I’ve been wearing shorts and sleeveless tops for weeks now.

Lisa, thank you. These shorts are a surpringly good fit. I don’t wear them very often because I don’t have Angie’s superpower. Here’s one of our peach trees.

Nice outfit and yummy looking peaches. My peach tree gets too much moisture and does not yield well. Enjoy yours.

Joyce, thank you. Our peach tree does not get much water, only from drip irrigation. That’s the desert for you.

Barbara, thank you. It turned out to be 101 today. The block party was actually held in our neighbors’ backyard, in the shade. It was still too hot.

FashIntern, thank you. I love the top. It’s very lightweight, yet not see through. You’re very perceptive - we’re at about 4700 feet in elevation.

Cardiff girl, thank you. Do peaches grow in your area? Peaches need a certain number of hours below 45F (7C). The number of hours depends on the variety. We planted our peach trees when we bought our house, and don’t even remember which varieties they are. (Now I keep better records.)

I was totally impressed by your peach salad and then saw that you grow your own peaches. How fab!

Navy and white is classic for at least APPEARING cool, even when the temperature is in the 100’s. I like your white denim skirt, and how you’ve styled it, a lot. Nice to see your Sak bag in action, too!

I love how crisp navy and white looks in the summer. The top with the red details is really nice on you. A late freeze seems to ruin the peach crop around here every year. This year all the peaches that survived the annual late frost got wiped out by a hailstorm a few weeks ago.

No peaches do not grow in our area!I think the south of France is probably the closest place to us that you could grow a peach tree successfully outside of a hot house.Our climate is too unreliable.

Sara, thank you. I would think that your peach crop freezes more often than ours because you’re at a higher elevation than us. We were in a ferocious hail storm in June, but we were driving over our local mountain and were at around 8000 feet. I was getting scared by the heavy hail and the mud flowing across the road. It was interesting because driving up it was in the 80s, and driving down it dropped into the 40s!

Cardiff girl, I’m sorry you can’t grow them. I’ll bet you get a lot of good produce from France, though.

Nice fresh looks - you do suit white shorts - I do not so I am jealous!! I like the embroidered blouse too.

I love peaches - they grow well in NZ but not especially in my area (too humid I think - we can grow them, but other regions do it better).

I love them roasted, or sliced with greek yoghurt, or in a salsa like you have made. My absolute favourite fruit.

Sal, thank you. I’m not sure why you think you can’t wear white shorts. I wear shorts because it’s hot, and sometimes they’re white. Peaches are my favorite fruit too. My heart breaks when we have a late freeze.

Those are great navy-and-white outfits. I find it a very summery combination, too, and it makes me think of sailing (not that I've done it--haha!). Your salad looks delicious, too.

Firecracker, thank you. I sailed on SF Bay when I was a kid. I think we wore bright yellow slicker suits so they could find us if we went overboard.
