WIW: Summer winds down

I "think" fall is approaching. We had temps in the 90s last week but the weather forecast shows a cooling trend which I hope will continue (rain would be nice too.) Haven't been around as much as usual but am in between fosters (dog) so thought I would post some recent WIWs and share a couple of purchases.

Finally pulled the trigger on some white sneaks--ended up getting boys sized Pumas (thanks to lisap for making me realize that I can fit a big boy shoe!) I also bought a crossover jean--who would have thought! I'm not 100% sold on the flattery and I'm not sure how to style them but I wore them anyway. Found them at the rack for $9.98--they are BCBGMaxazaria Jenna pants in case anyone is interested. I liked them because they are more of a chambray fabric--not as stiff as denim and will work for my climate. I know I said that the ruched VC skirt was too vavavoom for me but I sized up in the petite and found the fit very satisfactory : ) Found that at the Rack too.

You look terrific. And not at all fall like! Still looks like summer to me. but then, it was 38F on our way to the pumpkin farm this morning and there was a layer of frost over everything.

My experience is that fall in the Bay Area begins, truly begins, the last week in October, but the change in the light and the beginning of fall colors in the trees makes me anxious to start bringing out the sweaters and jackets.

first that skirt looks amaze balls on you. and somehow, i really like that cross over pant because the leg isnt so tapered.

These are stellar casual outfits, as always, Kelly! I especially like outfits 1 and 5--so cool looking, with fresh colors and beautiful fit and drape to the tops. Your hair has gotten longer, and it's looking wonderful this way--the layers are so nicely done around your face.
I love the crossover jeans on you, and the tube skirt, too. I actually broke down and bought one recently, too--the ruched version. (But I didn't find mine at the Rack, unfortunately.) You really scored!

Thanks, Everyone! You are all so nice I guess it may not look like fall but out here it feels more fall like when I can actually wear skinny jeans comfortably.

@Thistle: I’m not ready for frost yet. I guess I’d better enjoy the weather while I can.

@Astrid, Caro, Shevia and Beth Ann: Thanks for the crossover pant love. I am surprised by how much I like them. They are like harem pants--only woven.

@Jjsloane: Thanks! Glad to get some love of outfit 2 in photo 1. I don’t think I would have liked it last year but the simplicity appeals to me for some reason now. Plain jane but very comfy.

@Susan: Thanks! I think it’s the cool mornings that trick me into thinking fall is here. I think you are right though--Halloween is usually when things really cool off.

@BJ: Thanks! I have to say the skirt is very forgiving in the size up. The color is what sold me though. I think I’ll get lots of use out of that.

@Firecracker: Thank you. You’ve hit on one of my revelations this year about dressing--the fluid tops. They are pretty much all that I wear! Can’t wait to see how you wear the ruched skirt! I always get great inspiration from you.

@AJ: Thanks! I usually never find anything at the Rack but this last time I scored. I even found the plaid Jolt jeans for $15 so I scooped those up too. Can’t wait to wear them.

I just love all of your WIWs! You look SO toned and everything fits you to a T. Those crossover jeans - just wow! They look like perfection on you. I am like you, I never find much at the Rack, but it is also a bit far from me so I don't drop in as often as I probably should. You scored big time. Also, may I ask, what is your workout routine? I myself work out 6 times a week, a combination of cardio and weights. Just curious.

Kelly, you look so good! I love your hairstyle. What a variety of fashionable looks you can put together! And I really think that each one is flattering, in it's own way. You have SUCH a knack for footwear, and knowing what to pair with each outfit. It's uncanny. I don't think you could ever look dorky if you tried. (Not that anyone said anything about dorky, but I was just thinking I would look dorky in something like crossover pants!) It must be the "cool" factor you possess! Keep it up, and hang in there for Fall.

Kelly, you look fantastic in every one of these. I love how you are able to wear skirts and still come across as casual and ready to go and do whatever you need to do. You wear sporty luxe better than the best, and those crossover jeans are stunning on you. I think you're right that the chambray fabric makes the difference -- they drape a lot better. Fantastic outfit.

Kelly-- I love it when you post. I really enjoy seeing your style because you live a very casual lifestyle and still manage to look very put together and on trend. It is nice to see the "darker" side of your closet as you transition into fall. It looks very fresh to my eye, and particularly like the dark blouse. I think the crossover jeans look very cool, but I think they need another top with more volume or presence to balance it out. The foster "kids" are adorable.

@chouette: Thank you! I actually feel like I have been working out less than I have in the past. My goal is to do something every day whether it is a walk, run or kettlebell work out in my garage. If I don’t feel like running or I’m tired, I just walk (hills and flats.) Some days I do intervals and some days I do solid state. The only thing I force myself to do is the kettlebells. I think that has probably helped me more than anything--especially after my achilles rupture. I aim for two or three kettlebell work outs a week (with a 25 lb bell.) Whatever I end up doing for the day only takes about an hour--seems like a lot less time than I used to spend going to the gym or to Bikram!

@Angie: Thank you. I’ve been extra casual lately. I keep thinking I can’t get any more casual and then I do.

@Suz: Thank you. I am surprised at how easily the knit skirts work in my casual capsule. I never would have tried them if I didn’t see them here. They break up the monotony of the baggy britches!

@Elly: Thanks! I am still trying to figure out the crossovers. It’s funny because I wanted to change after seeing the photo but I was in a hurry. I will have to play with them a little more.
