On Monday I attempted to dress inspired by the Beatles' Abbey Road cover to take part in the photo challenge. When I looked at the pic I saw: loose menswear, neutrals, sepia colours, and lots of lines. The weather had warmed up, though, and I couldn't wear a blazer, so I pulled these pleated tapered dress trousers out. I'd been looking for trousers in a cut like this for ages, the quirkiness (I originally wrote dorkiness, lol) of the style really appeals to me; I finally found them last month! I wish they were full length but as I'd probably just roll them up anyway the higher hem wasn't a dealbreaker. Anyway, originally I tried a few grey tops to keep a monochrome outfit like the Beatles, but I didn't feel right in any of them. It's funny: I often dress low contrast, but I suppose that's different from the 'column of colour' approach...I feel best when there's at least a bit of colour/tone difference between my top and bottom. Unless I'm wearing a dress of course! Since I wanted to bring in the linear aspect, I was down to stripes or plaids, and ultimately this striped sweater (cotton so cool enough for the weather) seemed to fit best. I filled in the belt loops with a navy belt to pick up the navy stripes & semi-tucked to show it off! I restrained my natural urge to add a brooch or two, as this was menswear inspired, and limited myself to my navy blue socks. But then I felt a bit unadorned, so I added a tiny navy blue headband to get in a bit of girliness.

I forgot to take pics from my walk; it was too warm for outerwear so all I added was my navy blue shoes to keep the bottom streamlined. Pretty easy to imagine!

I struggled to put this together, trying on about 5 tops and 2 other bottoms, and I'm learning from this photo challenge (yesterday was even more difficult for me and today I've decided to just take a break) that I have a definite comfort zone/outfit creating style and don't care to stray too far from it. In the end I was fairly happy with the outfit, but I don't think it reflected the inspiration terribly well! Oh well.

As always, all comments and suggestions are appreciated!
