WIW: stripes, checks, and dots (semi-tucked or untucked?)

Pattern mixing today with striped tunic, microcheck pants, and polka dot trimmed blazer. I kept everything B&W (with red shoes of course) to keep it from being too hectic.

So I originally wanted to wear this with the tunic semi-tucked (photos 3&4). I loved the curved hem that it made in the back (photo 4) but thought it looked rather unbalanced and contrived from the front (photo 3). I am wearing it untucked at the moment as in photo 1 - I think the tunic is slightly too long but I can live with that. So what do you guys think? Was I right in ditching the semi-tuck? And is there some way I can fix it? Would a faux semi-tuck a la Angie be better? Or is the waist just too high on these pants for tucking?

I prefer the untucked. I think the waist is a bit high to tuck this particular top. I like the outfit and pattern mixing!

I think the waist is a bit high, but I would also try it semi-tucked with the sides kind of rolled under. That can salvage a semi-tuck on a longer tunic (I have a striped tunic like that, and that is what I do when semi-tucking it).

I love the pattern mixing. I would like to see this with your Clemency Docs!

Untucked for me too. I think the rise is too high on these pants and the top is too long for it to work. Love the untucked version:)

I agree that the untucked version is best. Love the combo of the black and white in the various patterns. Very harmonious and interesting!

I'd be curious to see it completely tucked in, with a wide black belt (as wide as the waistband anyway) to highlight your narrowest point, your waist. Do the trousers have belt loops? Or try a narrower belt if it will sit at the mid-point of the waistband. Might give you a long leg line, if you can do it.

Pattern mixing - advanced level! Looks great untucked, I think the top is a bit too fitted to tuck. It would be interesting to see it tucked woth a belt... I love your booties. Very nice look!

Ceit, I'll definitely be trying these pants with my Doc Clemencys!

Nancylee too, I have to admit that I do not like to full tuck into pants unless they are very loose or I am wearing a long jacket over. I'm too self-conscious about muffin top! I might try a fitted shell tucked in with a belt and a blazer over it all though (to hide the muffin top).

i like untucked. Could these pants do a belt? That sometimes helps "lower" the half-tuck a bit, by creating a horizontal visual. Also it's what keeps my half-tucks in place!

I like the untucked a lot better. I am digging the tunic length of that top with the jacket and the slim trousers. Great pattern mixing too.

Untucked! But I like the idea of belting over the tunic, which would highlight the waist under the jacket and bring the tunic up a little.
