Two outfits from the past week.

Outfit 1 is what I wore today for library volunteering. I suspect the reason I don't wear this denim shirt much is that it's just a little too snug. It would gap less with one more button undone at top, but while I'd totally do that for weekend-wear, it seemed a little much for a day at the school.

The first outfit is especially adorable! I see what you're saying about the shirt; that button fit can be really difficult to get right. You could always pop a silky top underneath to undo the next button. Or even try wrapping the top instead of buttoning it. I think the shrunken top (boo!) in #2 could be good with the skirt in #1. And it might be worth trying it with an even longer top underneath for a more exaggerated hem effect.

I like both outfits, especially the first one. That is a great idea for a shirt Aida. I avoid button down shirts--even if I go up a size they still pull apart at the bust. I'm going to try it out with the one shirt I do have.

I'll have to try that with the wrapping, Aida. I like the femininity of that a lot!

I have often considered pairing the striped tee with the skirt, but I live in a small town with one high school, whose colors happen to be maroon and gold. Every time I put on that particular combination, I feel kind of boosterish.

Gotcha ^^ Is that your only skirt? The shorter tee length is a slam dunk with skirts or high-waisted bottoms or even a tank dress/sheathe.

I like #1, Jenn...you always look nice in full skirts. But I'm surprised at how much I love #2! Layering the tank underneath has totally transformed the look of the striped tee to somehow make it look more interesting! I will have to try this myself!

Love the wrapping idea, Aida. Though I feel it'll work better for roomier shirts than snug ones, it's definitely an awesome tip.

Maneera I think you're right. With a higher waisted bottom it might work though!

I love the combination of burgundy skirt + cognac lace-up boots in #1, and the mustard + stripes + denim colour scheme of #2.

If you can't get this denim shirt to cooperate (I'm totally trying Aida's wrap trick next chance I get), I'd look for one in the same hue/wash because it works really well. Will fashion tape solve the gapping?

For skirts that aren't good for tucking and have some flare at the bottom (not tubes) I usually look for shirts that are a cropped length hitting just below the skirt waistband. I'm kinda intrigued by these raw hem denim shirts:

Wow, I love both of these! Though I can see that the denim shirt is snug. Bummer! The wrap idea sounds really neat, as does layering with a soft underlayer. The boots and skirt are AMAZING, and wow, matching leather jacket!

I really like #2 as well. The match of the two shirts is perfect, and I like just that amount of layer showing, when the under one has a straight hemline. The perpendicular stripes at the cuffs are awesome.

Thank you all! I tried the wrap thing, and this top is definitely too small for it to work. I'll wear with a cami next time. There was a time when I wore that cami under a partially-buttoned shirt look all the time, but that look waned as my boho streak waxed.

Angie, every time I pair burgundy and cognac, there's a little mental block that says it's not going to work, and then I put it on and it almost always does. It's interesting, how difficult a simple thing like going outside our standard color pairings can be.

Love the burgundy/cognac combination. I think of cognac as a neutral. And it always warms up the outfit (for those of us who prefer warmer colours). Both outfits are fab. I like the idea of tryin a longer underlayer in no 2. No 1 reminds me how much I would like a burgundy skirt. There is some burgundy appearing in our stores now, so yay!!!
