WIW: Spring Workhorses and Super Casual

Good morning YLF,
Here are some outfits that I've worn over the past month - ranging from super casual to work outfits. A few of these items are wardrobe workhorses and, interestingly enough, I bought them without any intention of them being that way. They were just supposed to be wardrobe fillers but have proven themselves to be favorite items. In particular, the cream lace tank in Pics 1,4 and 5 gets regular outings, as does the pink pencil skirt in Pics 3 and 5. The brown cross-body bag in Pics 2 and 6 was also just intended to fill out a wardrobe hole but it's become my weekend purse because it's so lovely.

I've also been working on my casual/super casual outfits since my revelation here:http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....psule-long. Pics 1, 2 and 6 are just some versions of what I've been wearing. Pics 1 and 6 were for casual days at work (I just noticed the similar color palettes!) and Pic 2 was thrown on one Saturday morning to pick up coffee and croissants.

I love the cream lace tank. It is so lovely on you and what a nice workhorse it has been. My favourites are #1 and 6 and the brown bag is functional and chic. I want to find me a cream lace top asap.

Krista, you look terrific! You've definitely hit your stride with the casual outfits.

I have exactly the same experiences with unexpected workhorses. And often they are surprising -- something bright, something textured. It becomes the item you reach for all the time even if you have other items in the same silhouette. I love your lace tank and pink skirt.

My faves here are the casual #1 and the dressier #3!

Suz - your earlier thread about accidental workhorses this season was the partial inspiration for this post. It really got me thinking about the many things I've purchased yet the items I keep reaching for are the ones where my thoughts went something like "Oh, I'll just grab that now and see what I think when I get home!"

Fabulous summer style, Krista. You wear yellow so well, lucky you. That little cropped cardi is adorable.
Even in ultra casual as in #2 you have a zing to your look.
I think the outfits with a third piece look best when there's a break in the hemlines between the under and upper layers. Does that make sense? So I find #1&#5 more appealing than #4.

I am inspired now to want a yellow cardi! Lovely with the lace tank and such a fun shade for summer. I love #1 and #3. Simple but the colors keep things interesting and the shapes are modern. Looks like you are ready to shine this summer.

I love you in yellow! So my favorites are 1,5 and 7. But I also like #2 the sweats outfit, because as casual as it is, all of the proportions and details are perfect. It's right out of a photo shoot.

Thank you everyone, especially for the comments on the yellow cardi and wearing yellow in general. I love the cardi too, although, admittedly, there is a wide ribbed band at the wrist that has stretched out so much that scrunching sleeves cannot happen. So I basically roll the sleeves to my elbows and scrunch from there. Glad to hear it's working!

Lantana - I agree that a break in hemlines in tops/toppers works better and provides more ... depth, shall we say? It's perhaps not the right word, but I do hear what you are saying!

Wendi1984 - I purchased the skirt at Cleo. It's the store where I have bought pretty much every item I'm wearing in these photos except for what I'm wearing in Pic 2 and the bottoms in pics 1 and 6. I buy from their Petites line and I can pretty much buy off the rack in my size. Which has never ever happened in my life!

I read your earlier post about your uber casual epiphany, and it is *exactly* what I have been thinking about too. I live in yet another really quite casual place and I'm actively working on dressing down but still dressing fab.

So I have loved seeing the looks you've come up with. The pink and yellow together are such a happy combination and the stripes in 6 are wonderful. Thanks

Very nice outfits and I love seeing items being used over in fresh ways. My favorites are 1, 5 and 6, but they all look nicely pulled together.

You have really nailed down your colors here. The yellow and fuschia are stunners on you. These bold brights are lovely! I can see why the cream tank is a workhorse, it's a great neutral that also adds some texture with the detailing on it. Isn't it funny how items sometimes end up workhorses and you just didn't expect it?
