WIW: Spring & a few questions

Thought I'd post a few WIW's before it gets hot and I take my fashion hiatus. I've been feeling a bit seasonally confused so I am interested in your opinions.

1. Random WIW's. The coral shirt is from Costco--thanks Denise! Curious if the "dress" reads as too short.

2.) ON dress. Looked seasonally confused so ended up wearing the FFBO. Is this dress spring appropriate or should I just put it away until fall? Does it look frumpy on me? I loved it on Aida and Shannon....

3.) Mossimo dress--not sure about the boots for spring. I've worn it with leggings and without. For some reason, DH dislikes this dress but it hasn't stopped me from wearing it. I know it's not the most flattering dress on me but it is great for hot days and I don't want to give it up.

I love your WIWs. Love all the #1s. The dress is a bit short, but you have the legs to pull it off, not inappropriate in anyway especially with the upper coverage. The dress in 2 is just not reading "you" to me. Love the other outfit. In #3 the first look is most "you" and my preference- fun, but all work.

I love most of these looks! I'm less fond of the first dress in pic #2 but everything is really pretty to me!

Thanks, Jj and Meredith! I'm wondering about the ON dress too. I really liked it until I saw the photo. I thought it was just seasonally inappropriate but I'm wondering if it just makes me look frumpy. Hmmm.

The outfits in #1 are all fab and fresh warm weather combos. I wouldn't change a thing.

The outfits in #2 are stunning. I love the booties with the patterned dress, I think they really make the outfit. And the striped combination is perfect, great proportions.

#3 is a gorgeous dress! My favorite combination is the third one. Fab!

I don't think you look frumpy in the dress, just not as perky and fresh as usual. Would be great in fall with tights and boots.

Every outfit in photo #1 is fab. I am especially loving the second outfit there, those soft colors look gorgeous on you. The dress looks a wee bit short, but you've got killer legs so it works for me.

I like the ON dress on you, and I think it's the color palette that's feeling like fall. To be honest, I plan to wear mine until August :p How about pairing white or light gray accessories/shoes with it to lighten it up as much as possible? The second outfit in #2 is fab! I want to see a stack of sparkly bangles with that one.

My husband doesn't like the Target draped dress but I wear it anyway too ^^ Love it in the second and third outfits, the boots totally work for me. The first one feels a little bit off, maybe shorter leggings? Lighter colored leggings? White/gray camisole? A bit of a wedge heel with these leggings?

Ok, the last first. I like that Mossimo dress a lot, especially with the aqua tank. I would leave off the boots if it's warm enough to do so. And for some crazy reason that belt seems to be obscuring your waist instead of highlighting it. I like sandals, flats and leggings equally. Wear it to coffee with a girlfriend instead of on a hot date with DH!

For the ON dress with the autumnal colors, I'd just wear it with sandals and a white or light denim jacket or blazer. You can wear these colors any time of the year after all!

I like all of your outfits in #1. Is that coral shirt 3/4 sleeved? For the blue and white dress, that would be so cute with white/silver Puma type ballet sneakers!

LOVE the second outfit in #2. I really like the tunic with the long shorts. I must try something similar. i also really like the dress in #1. yeah, it's a bit short, but it's hot out, right? It's not obscenely so. You look really nice.

Kelly, first of all, may I just say that you have THE most fabulous shoe/boot collection on the planet?! Honestly, I need to come visit you to go shoe shopping and get my collection whipped into shape. Second of all, I LOVE you in that ON dress. I think it's beautiful, and I love it with those WAY COOL booties. And heck, we're in transition, so why not wear transitional clothing? Or, ditch the booties and ship them off to me : ). Third of all, you look great in all the rest of your outfits, as well! Phew!

Wow, you do have great legs, but even so the short dress seems too short. If it were mine I would shorten it into a tunic.

I love the dress in #2 and think it is fine for spring. I also really like the dress in #3 and as long as your feet aren't too hot it looks really cute with the boots.

Great outfits, Kelly! My favorites are the second outfit in #1 (shorts) and the first styling of the Target dress. I think the ON dress works best with tights and boots, and that perhaps some brown pumps or chunky sandals might work better than the booties (IMHO).

I'm a huge fan of the FFBO in #2! But they all look great. I don't think the one dress reads as fall necessarily. I'd wear it any season

Don't have much time but just wanted to say I really like the ON dress. It's classic and gorgeous colors. You look generall quite fab. I like the last dress too, sorry that hubby doesn't the first dress is short, but I think length is totally personal. I would wear it casually but not hat length for work.

I suggest trying a red (green or grey, like in the pattern of the ON dress-or the ballet flats from the other outfit nearby) it may do the work better for spring. BTW I like all of your outfits, maybe not so much the blue dress with the boots, but you too felt the same:-)

Love the dress in #3 with the leggings and flat or the belt and flats. I'm not a fan of the dress with the boots here. I also really like your Bermuda shorts collection. I've been hunting for a few pairs that are not skin tight in the fit. These looks great on you!

Kelly, I am scribbling notes! Your "spring" looks would do perfectly for my "summer" so you are my MOTG mentor!

I really love them all, actually. The dress in #3 is gorgeous on you (sorry, hubs) and I prefer it in photo #1 there, without boots and belt.

I think the ON dress is sublime on you. If the colours don't spell spring to you, then hang onto it, but if the weight and texture feel springlike, then I say go with it!

Your WIW are fab! And you definitely have the legs for the short dress. But if it feels a bit exposed (since our eyes are so busy adjusting to longer lengths) then I think you could wear that one with leggings, too. Maybe white ones. Or even white clams? It would look great as a long tunic!

I always love your WIWs! I don't see a hint of confusion here! I love the black tapered shorts, and all of those outfits in the first panel, actually. I think I would love those beige shorts even more if they were cut like the black ones :). I think the dress is fab, maybe right on the edge of shortness, but OTOH you are rocking it! I think the dress in the second pic is very nice, but it's not my fave for you (though I wouldn't call it frumpy). Love your FFBO! In the last panel, I think the Mossimo dress is cute, but I wonder if it's a touch too big for you and maybe that's what hubby sees? I don't mind the looseness at all (you are wearing the dress well!); my fave is with the boots! I love, love, love how you rock shorter boots with bare legs--LOVE!! You are my idol!

Hey, Kelly - you are the queen of bermuda shorts! I think Angie has to dispense the actual title so that's just a turn of phrase for now You wear them so well, and I agree with Jonesy -- the black shorts seem to be a little more tapered and flattering than the beige.

I used to have that Mossimo dress and gave it away. I could never make it look fab enough, and we don't have enough hot weather here to make it a must-keep. I felt like the gathering created a lot of extra fabric to deal with on a petite frame.

If the ON dress is the one with the autumnal colors, then yes, I would say it screams "fall" to me, too. But then, that's probably all in our minds and doesn't make a bit of difference. Think of Jean - she wears that color palette year-round and looks amazing!

Thanks for the helpful comments! I really appreciate it. I think I struggle with spring dressing the most--fall and winter rely heavily on layering. Spring, not so much. I find my spring outfits look sparse to my eye.
@Deborah: LOL! Thank you. The ON dress is a bit different for me--perhaps that is what is throwing me. It’s a 10 for comfort so I really want to make it work.

@Aida: Thanks! The light palette is kind of a new thing for me. I felt very spring-y and low contrast in it Great suggestions on the ON dress. My light boots looked off for some reason--I think I need to try it with a light colored camisole to add some balance. I’m going to give it another try. Funny about the bangles suggestions for the FFBO because I ended up stacking my aqua bracelets on just before leaving the house! I also find it pretty amusing that your husband doesn’t like the Mossimo dress either especially when you make it look SO fab.
@Claire: You make a good point about the belt. Honestly, I usually wear it sans belt. The funny thing is that every one who wears it on the forum wears it with a belt and looks fab--so I thought I’d do the same. I think I’ll leave the belting for those who have a waist to start with! To answer your question, the coral blouse is 3/4 sleeve. It’s the one that Denise recommended from Costco (medium, in case you are wondering and it did shrink quite a bit after washing. I was debating on returning it for a small but was too lazy. Glad my laziness paid off for a change.)

@sarah: Thank you! I find shoe shopping the most rewarding because they usually always fit! I’ve been gradually weeding out the uncomfortable and/or boring shoes and applying Angie’s one in, one out rule. Thanks for the ON dress love!
@Tracina: Thanks for your honesty! I’m really confounded with dress lengths these days. More than likely, I will wear it with leggings or clams but I wanted the option of wearing it as a dress. I think it’s just on the borderline and passes only because of the loose fit and upper body coverage.

@Moe, Scarlet and Kirti: Thanks! Now that I’ve read your comment, I agree about the “classic” vibe of the ON dress--a little out of my style element.
@Lisa: Thank you. I lucked out on bermudas this season. I found this year’s version of the Mossimo walking short (fit 3) to be a perfect fit and fabrication. Last year’s were flimsy and rather ill fitting, IMHO. I’ll be wearing them until fall and at $15 a pop on sale, I don’t care if they make it to next summer. Ross, of all places, had some petite denim clams by Bandolino that fit like a dream--they are the bottoms in my FFBO. Highly recommend.

@Jonesy: Thank you! IKWYM about the blush shorts but they are boyfriend style and I love the loose fit. When it’s hot, those are more comfy that the tapered shorts. I like to mix the short silhouettes up--my spring and summer are pretty long and I need the variety! I think you’ve pretty much summed up what DH doesn’t like about the dress--he mentioned the word “brick-like” when he was describing how it makes me look. He just prefers a more conventionally flattering style on me which is fine.
@Laura: That’s so funny. I’m in the running for Queen of something--I’m very excited! I didn’t know you had the Mossimo dress too. I would have loved to see you in it. I bet you made it look uber stylish. It does have a lot of extra fabric and I think for petites it can be overwhelming. It’s hard to beat during hot weather though--it’s one of my coolest pieces! I’m not giving it up anytime soon. Great point about Jean--she does make those autumn colors work year round. I’m going to have to put my thinking cap on next time I try to style that dress! I love them all, especially that coral shirt and white shorts! So fresh and springy!

I do think the striped dress in the first photo is a little short. You have gorgeous legs but still... I think it's a little short. I like the idea of wearing it as a tunic.

Love the ON dress and think you should definitely keep it and maybe try it with some nude pumps or sandals for spring.

i srly adore you in stripes. that dress is so simple, but it makes your shape sooo yummy. the breton top is also a great outfit. all the combos woth the blue flower print dress is getting me interested in color again after i pledged to concentrate on a neutrals wardrobe!

Kelly, these all look good to me! Of the last batch, my fave is the dress with the booties as well - the dress is a lot of pattern so the booties help balance it to my eye. You are an inspiration to me for summer looks, so please don't take a seasonal hiatus.

I have to add that I love seeing your WIWs because I feel you are closest to my body type and preferences when it comes to dressing the shoulders. I figure I can't look as bad as I think if YOU look so utterly fab. I so envy your amazing calves - they balance your look out so well.

(Kelly I think my husband used "brick-like" for that Target dress too!! Here's what I'm thinking of doing, which may work for you too as a fellow IT: 1) Ruche those straps in a bit more so they are thinner and not hanging off my shoulders; I think it'll slim the top up a bit too 2) Add a little snap to the wrap so it doesn't bunch all loosey-goosey.)
