WIW: Sporty Luxe Journey - YouLookFab Forum

Angie inspired me with this morning's post featuring her looking fab on a shirtdress and white sneaks. I pulled out one of my shorter dresses that has a cream, pewter and grey tie dye type pattern and lots of interesting detail, and started looking for shoes. I chronicled my journey in the pics below (L to R). The Crocs were a joke I threw in, since I had them on for around the house and they bookend my backpack ;-). As I said, the dress is a wee short, so I tried with capri tights and various tennies. The Saucony were the best of the bunch, but the look was off to my eye. Next family of shoes tried was my family of black gladiators, but meh. Three hours later (it felt like), I arrived at my pewter faux snake scale Kenneth Cole glads. Because my bus is the North Pole, I there over my AllSaints shrug/cardigan for the ride to and from work. Happy Friday everyone, it's Seafair weekend here, and I get to watch the Blue Angels practice from my office on the 39th floor downtown!

How ridiculously adorable are you in the Crocs and backpack. My word. DH gave that to you for your b-day. That means I missed it. Sorry. *sigh*. HAPPY BIRTHDAY. You are an utter delight and I am thrilled you found YLF.

Thanks so much for showing us the many versions, really helped me. It's interesting,I really like the dress with both the sneaks and the glads, but with the sneaks I prefer it with the leggings. Probably because it gives a slightly more sporty look.

You look fab in the dress, and I like it best with the sandals you chose, for work. But I'd totally wear it with the sneakers for other occasions. (At least that's the kind of thinking I did with the dress I wore today. It may be old-fashioned thinking, though.) I like the dress with the sweater over it (another cool AllSaints sweater!!) and would certainly wear it that way into the fall, with leggings and booties!

And I just have to add, that dress looks like it belongs in my wardrobe.

Well done! Love the final version, particularly, but I also like the leggings and saucony choice, and it would make the dress more versatile, too.

Have you ever tried the jockey slipshorts? I wear them under all my shorter skirts and dresses They work as a slip layer, keep my thighs from rubbing (you have slender gams, so perhaps this is never an issue for you), but they also provide a bit of modesty that makes me more at ease in a shorter dress --- like, when I walk up the open stairs at church that are positioned directly above the guy at the sound booth. Not kidding. I have a pair in black and nude.

I did feel like the leggings and tennies was the "I'm on my way to the gym to workout" vibe outfit, which isn't so much a work look. Not that anyone cares there...I'm guessing that's why Anna preferred the sans tights look. I may have gone all the way to "going to a Roman festival" look with the glads/no tights, but oh well. Live and learn.
Angie & Aida, you guys made me LOL! B-day was on the 31st, so not far off. I nagged DH to give me my present at the beginning of the month In fact, we were in Nordies and I whined "why don't you just pop over to handbags and we can take it now". Came home and the box was on the front porch.
Ummlila if Crocs become fashionable, it's not on me...just saying' I will say though, I've had this pair for close to 10 years and they went trekking in the Himalayas with me, because a) feet couldn't tolerate anything else after hiking all day, and b) they're big enough to get on with down bootie socks on! They're a little crinkled from campfire proximity.
Sharan, my closet twin! I struggle with old-fashioned thinking too, which is why I come here so often I really should be posting BEFORE I leave the house, but that would require rising before dawn, lol!
Beth Ann, funny that you bring that up. I have them in my Amazon cart but had picked up some boy shorts at NAS to try. Shoulda listened to everyone, they roll up on the thighs and down at the waist, so I'll pull the trigger on the Jockeys.
