... shorter and also darker.

Sorry for the bathroom photos but I wanted to snap a picture while still in the salon, since it was windy out! Also DH is at class tonight and won't be home late. Skip below for photos; read on for the whole story....

I am back to barely chin length, just tuckable behind the ears, and even shorter in the back. I really did love the longer length, but my hair did not. I walked into the salon and my hairdresser did a tsk-tsk and fretted "oh my! your hair is too dry!" (This is something I don't think you all can really see in photos -- in real life... it's very true, and has been bugging me a lot) She recommended she chop a lot off, to remove the frizzy, dry ends. And, I agreed, because I said here recently, the shorter cut definitely works better for me during scarf season.

She said the shorter 'do would help with the thinning. She had mentioned to me last visit that my hair was thinning, asking if I'd noticed (back then I had not). Today, I told her how, since my last visit, my hair has been shedding like crazy. If I run my hand through my hair, 5-10 strands come out with it. Every. Time. She reassured me it's probably just a natural growth cycle.

She confirmed that the gray/whites are more than 10% now... that doesn't mean I'm "going gray" quite yet... this happened about 10 years ago to me, too. I shed hair like crazy, making the gray/whites way more noticeable, then my hair started growing in again, it all filled back out, and I wound up about 10% gray.

Most of all, she felt my hair was too ashy. Especially with the gray/whites that are moving in lately. So she recommended we do lowlights this time. Gentler too. She would have gone darker if I'd let her. But, I always get really nervous about lowlights. Especially when my hair is shorter; I don't want to look mousy. But I think this is okay. And I am wise enough to know the color will fade as it settles in.

I do like the cut but there's not as much volume at the crown compared to past, similar cuts. That's because my hair has thinned so much!! I know it may be hard to tell from a photo; trust me on this. I run my own hand through my head, and I can tell. It's a LOT thinner right now.

WiW (other than hair): ATL jean jacket. Same scarf in recent WiW. Same BR black scoop neck ruched knit dress you've also seen in recent WiW's. Only new addition here was cream, studded flat oxfords I found at F21 recently. Can't see them in the photo!
