I was looking for comfort and casual today, and Angie came through with blog post inspiration. I went a bit overboard in the proportion/ balance department with the ginormous scarf, but I was grateful for its warmth all day long.

JAileen, Coco and Donna: I hope you love your skirted leggings as much as I do. It took me a bit to feel bold enough to get past my 'midlife woman in a mini' doubts and wear these outside the home, but they've become a FFBO now for their ease and comfort. I even wore this to work yesterday. (I thought our division chief would be out of the office so felt a bit awkward, but he actually commented on my 'creative style'!)

Thanks, Sterling! I sized up on the leggings as I felt more comfortable having a bit of extra skirt length. As a result they are a little long (you can see them puddling slightly around my ankles). I never know what to do about that--I appreciate the extra ankle warmth so chose a drapey scarf to make it look intentional. But I wonder if ankle scrunch on leggings is a style no no and I need to give in and get them hemmed?

The length on these leggings is good Aliona. You could do a more cropped ankle length if you wanted, particularly for higher shafted booties, which is a little trendier. But certainly not a must. I personally like the puddle effect My full length pairs puddle similarly; the extra warmth is nice.

Shevia, yes I've been getting an asymmetrical cut for the past year. To be honest I'm feeling a bit over it as my hair hangs so straight that the cut doesn't provide much opportunity for variety. Wish I had your or Aida's gorgeous waves and curls.

Aida thanks so much for the advice on the leggings. For the cropped look, should I be aiming for a sliver of skin between higher shaft boot and legging hem? I really appreciate your insight on these matters of proportion; you have such a great eye.

Yes, I would aim for that little sliver of skin although it might limit your boot options somewhat unless all of your boots had the exact same shaft height; cropped length would work with non-bootie footwear too, probably best with higher vamps to close the gap a bit (I tend to like mine with low vamp footwear, though in those cases I'm usually going with a light shoe so it's low contrast against my skin). With pants you can get away with the hem falling right at the top of the shaft because when you moved the skin would show, but since leggings are snug I think you'd need the skin visible from the get-go.

What a perfect rendition of Angie's ensemble! Love it. The oversized scarf and shoes make the look.

Re legging length, you may be able to tuck them under for a shorter length, to keep your options open. I'm with Aida in that I like the slight puddle with these shoes.

I think you did very well. The scarf isn't too big and the shoes are fabulous. I have a tip if I may be so bold... If you think your sweater is too roomy... hoist it up on one side, pin it to your Tshirt underneath the sweater, somewhere just above the waist and let the sweater drop again. It will now be asymmetrical, which adds interest to the outfit and is very fashionable.
Don't take this from me, I just picked this up from the internet. The pin thing was my find (I used a small rectangular brooch).
