I added these pants a couple of months back. They will be suitable for 9 months of the year here - they are a thick linen.

I wanted to wear the black top but needed a topper on an autumn day. To get a twin set this long coatigan was the best option - but it felt a bit much for my needs today. So I swapped in the pink sweater - which is sort of a version of the first look from the blog post. I still love the warm pink of the sweater and the puffed sleeves make it different to my other sweaters.

I am enjoying these pants - I will try with boots but I think they will be best with sneakers.

I do think the coatigan is overwhelming here - do you agree?

Sal, those pants look fantastic on you. Amazing they work 9 months per year. That must be an amazing quality linen! Impressed.

The pink sweater also looks amazing on you.

The coatigen does feel a bit much... I see your point. It might work with more autumnal elements all round -- boots (though I see your point about sneakers and the pants) or maybe a less dark top? I think the shape of the pants really shines when they show more. Is it possible to shorten the coatigen a bit? Though that might interfere with other outfits you like to create with it.

I actually like both looks and love the drama the long cardigan adds . Super chic to my eye and takes the look up a notch . Great pink sweater too !!

Great pants, love them both with pink and black. I am with Lisa here, I love the dramatic effect of the long coatigan, but may try that outfit with black booties.

They all work to my eye! I was wondering about toppers with linen pants since it was cooler this am.

Thanks Suz - I will try the coatigan with black booties, these pants and a different top or lighter scarf. I think they would feel a bit seasonally confused in the middle of winter - I now do like to give clothes a rest for three months or so (kind of capsule but not really) even if I "could" wear them.

Lisa - I think the long topper could work, I wore it a fair bit last winter (mostly with jeans and boots) - it's not very cold here just grey and windy today.

Tanya- thanks - I agree I think the coatigan here needs boots or something else. I didn't have time to play - just did a quick mirror check and thought no (and took the pic!)

This trans-seasonal look is needed here - March to May and Sept to November often need a versatile approach in NZ! One day I could be in a tank top (Saturday) and then yesterday in a puffer.

These are great. I like 1 and 3.

I think the silhouette in 2 works but feels a bit seasonally confused with linen. I think a similar silhouette with wool pants and boots would look fine.

I think that might be it Brooklyn - it's getting the balance right in the shoulder seasons. I don't particularly change my colours seasonally but linen doesn't feel like a winter fabric (and to me corduroy or velvet don't feel like summer fabrics). The pink sweater can work across seasons (not summer) but the coatigan really feels too wintery for the pants.

I don't have many true winter pieces and I have come to the conclusion to keep winter clothes tight and practical. These are really the only three pieces I would consider exclusively winter.

Nice Sal! I also thought maybe if the coatigan was a bit shorter it would be perfect (with this outfit). Great coatigan though, very cool vibe.

For me, linen is a summery fabric, so my fave is nr 1! The coatigan is a bit overwhelming to my eyes as it is also black, I dunno...

I purchased the coatigan last year from an expensive thrift shop - it cost 50$ - and my plan was for evening occasions as a topper. I wore it quite a few times- and really like it. I don’t want to alter it but I think it is quite a lot of fabric which limits its use.

I like the idea of the coatigan, but it does seem a bit overwhelming for this outfit. Love your pink sweater with the pants.

I was definitely a bit ambitious to think about sleeveless in late April. We didn't get a lot of lovely summer days so I want to stretch out the summer into almost winter....

Great coatigan & pants! Personally I agree that shortening it would lose its drama - instead I would wear it with more of the pants rise visible (i.e. with a shorter top, if you don't wish to tuck) OR with a waist belt (to draw the eye up, instead of to the hems).
