WIW: Simple Boho, for longer legs

Another snooze of an outfit, but I'm determined to participate in the forum more!

I wore this outfit to do a few returns, and buy a few Christmas presents. This maxi dress gets a ton of wear, but never as just a dress. I almost always end up with a button front shirt tied at the waist, and a waist cinching belt. I just like how long it makes my legs look I tried a new combo today and paired this olive silk shirt and dark brown belt. Because the top is tunic length, the tails on the knot are longer than usual, and I'm not sure how I feel about them. What do you all think?

Love all the neutrals and the stunning jewelry. The top tied like that is very boobtacular - could be a positive, negative, or neutral detail, depending on your POV.

I'm trying to incorporate more boho elements into my style, so your "snooze" outfit is helpful! I've been having problems with maxi skirts being a few inches too long (I'm only 5'2"), and I knew I could cinch them up, but I didn't know how. I like your idea of covering the top half with a tied button-down and a thick belt.

I like Caro's suggestion about experimenting with the tie on the top. It does really emphasize your bust right now--but that might have been the intent.

I like the boots!

Fun outfit. You look super tall. Have you tried to tuck the shirt under itself and use the belt to keep it in place? That may eliminate some of the excess shirt from the knot tying.

I have a poison eye for tops tied or tucked right under the bra line that way, so I will just say that I love the boots and envy your tiny waist.

This is an impactful look! I like your style, and the way you're embracing and working with your curves. That belt looks like a very good quality expensive leather belt. I've found some great ones at Goodwill, too. And I've never thought of looking for silk in the men's department, what a great idea!

So tell me, do you have a style descriptor yet? Is there an era or genre that you're inspired by? I'm glad you're participating more.

MuseumGal: Thanks! I'm really into jewelry (it has its own little dresser) so it's good to know what I'm doing is working I wasn't really going for boobtactular, but it's inevitable sometimes when I wear my favorite pieces.

caro: The top won't quite wrap around me like that, but that's a great idea for other tops! Thank you for such a great idea

Gigi: I love Boho, and I hope I can help you find your inner flower child I have the opposite problem of never finding maxis that are long enough (I'm only 5'7") but when I find a really long one, I just hike it way up to my pits, put on a cardi and cinch that bad boy into place!

Lisa: I still want the tails to be visible, so tucking doesn't quite work... Maybe this shirt should just stay a tunic.

Una: I know that my look isn't for everyone, and I definitely appreciate the honest feedback. And if it makes you feel any better, I often love *your* boots, and envy your killer legs!

Claire: The closest I've come to a style descriptor is Bohemian Rockstar Lumberjack, but nothing is official yet. I would describe my taste as eclectic and a bit arty. Maybe even a little hipster-ish sometimes? I'm a big fan of flares/bellbottoms, flowy tops and platform shoes. To confuse my closet even more, I like spikes, skinny jeans and leopard print. Throw into the mix my passion for plaid and thermals, and it's a bit hectic in there. Funny thing is, it's all very me I figured I'd build up a backlog of outfits and ask for input on a style descriptor.

Okay well take this with a big grain of salt, because I'm hardly an expert in style that looks like yours, but I see something a little dark or goth here. You have the kind of lush figure that would lend itself to Renaissance type costumes and you seem to be able to carry the length of that skirt pretty well (you must be tall). Very cool!

You have such a tiny waist! I have a poison eye for tied shirts like that, so I won't comment except to say I like the colour!

Claire: I have a tiny bit of a goth streak left over from my teens, but not as much as my last 2 WIW posts would lead you to think... Brown is my favorite neutral, not black It's also quite funny that you mention renaissance costumes, as I participate in ren faires! I'm a big ol' nerd. As for height, I think you and I may the same height, actually. I'm 5'7"
