WIW: Rubic trial

Hey all

yesterday I found a rubic and today I am trying it on a new outfit.

Classic - black slacks and a shirt
masculine - the tailoring on the slacks and the necklace, actually, has a masculine vibe to it
feminine - the paisley and mary jane shoes
surprise - the red cami and belt. I felt the belt, from the back view, helped break up my HUGE pear bottom!

DD did NOT agree. Sheesh
I have not quite figured out if UWP is part of my style or something I aspire to!

thanks for any help or pointing out flaws with rubic or outfit. Yes I have a long upper chest, very visible in this picture

When you get tired of that blouse can you post it to New Zealand please. You look great would like to have seen a tiny bit more of the surprise cami - great colour contrast against the more neutral blacks and greys.

I like this a lot! Jayne, if you want to slightly obfuscate the long upper chest, maybe pull up the necklace a little to lie higher up? That might reduce the elongating line leading us to the cami. A higher cami might do it too, but those tend to be less versatile I guess.

Yes, it felt like me! I got a 10 on the happiness scale. I have never actually tried a lady type shoes (pump, sandal, or mary jane) with slacks before so I love how it adds height and an elegant line to my leg. new discovery!

I opened another button and I have tried to balance the necklace more. I will have to see if the girls at lunch like this!

Oh, I added a little UWP with a leather jacket and leather gloves on my way to work

I figure once overs from 2 women means I am doing something noticeable at least. You gals ever experience that?

Jayne, this is a lovely outfit on you. You look gorgeous. Your leather jacket would have looked fab with this. And I love seeing you in the "ladylike" shoes. This is beautifully put together with just the right pop of color...loving it.

This is a great outfit on you Jayne and I think you really have something here with your rubric elements. If it gives you a 10 on the happiness scale and you feel like yourself in it, you are definitely on the right track! I particularly love the blouse and how you've added colour at your waist with the bright belt and turned it so the buckle is to the side.

I like it a lot! The color under the blouse, the menswear touch in the trouser and the feminine shoe. Hurray for trying something new and feeling so good!!

Thanks friends. I felt great in this. By the way, if the temperture doesn't kill me, I will try to take my morning photo in the garden and we can all enjoy it through the season! I hope the DD will cooperate!

I love the pairing of the black pattern blouse and black pants with the red cami and matching belt. Very nice! You look great and you obviously FEEL great too!

Jayne, you have such a lovely smile! And no wonder you are smiling, because this rubric seems to be working for you! This is a flattering and comfortable look for you. I really like it.

I have a similar issue with being proportionately longer from chin to bust than I am from bust to waist. Only I have almost no bust, so it REALLY looks like one long piece of real estate! I think you are already doing some good things—the cami can help break up the space, and the necklace point can be played with to get the right proportion. I also find that higher necklines work well, but I am not sure that works if you have actual breasts. (Ahem). Boatnecks can be good. Scarves (in the season) are brilliant; they cover a multitude of sins. Claire had some great posts on this issue in the winter.

This is a great rubric to describe your outfit. Will you be sticking to the same rubric in future or are you looking to include other elements in your style?

I like the rubric and how you've incorporated each piece into your outfit. The outfit looks great and what I think is especially important is how you felt great wearing it.

Suz, thanks for the tips. I haven't figured out how to go back and see posts from way way back. I have to page and page backwards and it seems to get stuck. Any tips on how to see posts a person has started in say november? That was before I joined

Your rubric seems to be working well for you, Jayne! I like this a lot. I'm going to join in and say I'd like to see a shorter necklace with this.

Also, I'm wondering about the belt buckle...why do you have it so far to one side?

This works really well Jayne! The red cami and belt are the perfect surprise element here. So far so good with the rubric!

I think the classic, masculine, feminine suits you very well.

As for surprise, how about defining that a little more. The surprise could be:

POC (loving a pop of color)
Boho element
Rock n Roll element
UWP element
Sporty element

So, the surprise is your "shadow style" as Vix calls it, not your main look but the secondary or fun element you need to add.

I agree totally on the CL, I deliberately didn't pick one from the list because I seem to add one of those, boho, color, or UWP for sure. I love that you added Rock and Roll! and Sporty, both parts I feel. These are great secondaries. But I cannot seem to pick just one and boho and UWP seem like opposites so I hope I am allowed to have an overabundant list!

BTW have you seen the campaign by Lindex with Gwyneth Palthrow where she does the modern preppy look? Maybe you can find some inspiration there (though she's skinny and can wear whatever, I think there were several nice looks for other body types other than hers) http://www.lindex.com/no/dame/.....rn-preppy/

Thanks Harmonica, I had noticed the preppy. Good inspiration photos right now while I am trying a spring SYC to see what I really need. Right now, need 0, however I want LIME something but not finding anything out there.
