WIW: Roman Holiday - YouLookFab Forum

This has been a hot, hazy summer (as all the Canadian Fabbers have been saying! ) And I've continued to love my midis! My theme this summer has been a modern take on Roman Holiday - I just love the long, full skirts, crisp blouses and playful lightness of that movie.

As I said in a previous post, this summer is all about wearing the things I have:

1-2: The famous vintage 'wallpaper' culottes from my last post, Ted Baker silk blouse, Clarks sandals.

3-5: vintage lace blouse my mum bought me last year (it has buttons down the front which I find a bit mumsy, so I wear it backwards, which gives it a bit of a high neck and cap sleeves) , BCBG white pants from last year, Gucci sunnies and black Clarks sandals bought last month.

6-8: club Monaco lace blouse, Shoshana white silk skirt (both from last year) and Dolce & Gabbana sunglasses (ancient.)

I tried surrendering the waist here to make it a bit more modern but I'm not crazy about the look of it. What do you think?

Beautiful modern, pretty looks! The middle one, with the blouse your mom bought, is my favorite. The lace top in the last one is gorgeous. I see what you mean by waist surrendering, but untucked does let the lace take center stage. I doubt you can go wrong either way.

I lust after your 'wallpaper' separates, but understand that I will have to source my own versions due to the uniqueness of yours. That said, your charcoal/black lace tops paired with white bottoms look just amazing - and so perfect with your colouring. Beautiful looks really, Roxanna.

Oh my gosh, you have never looked more gorgeous! I love all these outfits! I feel that that last one does not hide your waist -- it doesn't "cinch" it but it shows the contours, and the blouse is so pretty. I also love the one your mother found you. She is a shopping genius! I want to know her secrets.

Roman Holiday is a really rich moniker and you're rocking it! Clever to flip the black lacey blouse around; the resulting high neck is gorgeous there. The last outfit is my favorite. The gentle a-line shape has an easy elegance to it that I adore.

All these outfits, the wallpaper culottes and lace tops, look great with your hair...colors and texture. How clever to wear the button front lace top backward.

My favourite is the first one - fantastic culottes.

I think with the lace you can surrender the waist and it is still flattering enough.

Beautiful, Roxanna. My favorite pieces here are the unique ones -- the wallpaper pants and the backwards lace top. Adding a few items like those gives such a spark of life and personality to a wardrobe.

Love that movie! These are great looks, I love the lace tops in particular. I don't think they are waist-surrendering at all, maybe because of the sheerness.

Thanks so much everyone and I'm glad you think that the last outfit works. I get bored quickly, so embracing a theme for the summer helps me bring some playfulness and a distinct mood to my summer outfits. I think I was inspired by all of Brooklyn's dark romance posts to pick a theme of my own!

Angie commented on one of my posts that my outfits reminded her of Grace Kelly in Rear Window...I might watch that next!

Just echoing others’ comments...all three are fantastic looks. Love the theme and the color palette really suits you. I also agree that the third outfit seems subtly shaped rather than waist surrendering— very flattering.

With the Roman Holiday theme, I feel like you could have some fun with vintage brooches, if you were inclined to add a little further somethin’-somethin’. Only if you want to though — the outfits are just lovely as is!

All outfits are beautiful but the last is my favorite. The lace blouse is beautiful and the combination is very elegant. It's not really waist surrendering.

GK wears some outfits in Rear Window that are TDF (there is a scene where she wears a white top and green skirt that is one of my all time favourites movie outfits ever). Also you might want to check out Audrey in “sabrina” if you haven’t seen it already.
