When I was younger I would never wear pink of any kind. For some reason I always felt like, with the red hair, I looked like Strawberry Shortcake (which is completely irrational and weird because I never felt that way about wearing the color red).
In the last decade or so I've found my aversion to pink dissipating and have actually been drawn to some pieces in various shades of pink, from pale to salmon to hot.
These 80's vintage Anne Klein couture booties were one such piece. I bought them in a thrift store in Boston probably a decade ago (and had nothing to wear with them at the time).
Now they get much more regular play because I love the "smack you in the face" hot pink of them. They are perfect for adding a pop of color (and they're very comfortable, to boot!).
Paired them yesterday with a somewhat colorful but simple outfit of BF jeans and a knit blazer (with hot pink striped accents) and added some antique jewelry to the mix.
This included one of my favorite necklaces. It is a Victorian rose gold and peridot necklace made with actual scarab beetles --yes, dead beetles. This type of jewelry was very popular in the victorian to early art deco era). Most folks think they're stones of some kind. Nope. They're dead bugs. I call this my "stealth creepy-cool necklace" because it's not obviously creepy till I tell someone they're bugs when they ask about the "stones".
