HURRAH!!!! My most favorite outfit I've ever put together!

I felt authentic, organic, flattering, comfortable, and more. I just listened to my heart. It did involve time with makeup and hair. That wasn't intentional. In fact, I have been really trying to downsize time spent on hair and makeup. But I felt super inspired after recently watching Brian Setzer's music videos, especially Stray Cat Strut. I also have a thing for the stylized Victoriana hair of the 1980s, Edwardian top knots, and the like. Somehow, that's what my heart wanted. And whenever I do hair like that, I need big makeup!

Surprisingly, my outfit caused a sensation in public! A woman in Walmart nearly ran me over with her cart. She said, "Oh! I"m so sorry. I was so busy staring at your fantastic outfit!" I got stared at repeatedly in another store, as well. I feel it was mostly the hair and makeup. I live in a very outdoorsy area; makeup is often minimal or very "Kardashian" with blown out hair. Nonetheless, I definitely felt happy and myself.

This outfit makes me want to get more fitted/tailored jackets to pair with long dresses. I feel like I have the beginning of a decent formula or uniform with this?? It almost makes me want to abandon knitting myself sweaters and just buy jackets. What do you all think?? (I sound nuts, I'm sure.) At the very least, I can see how peplums, structure, and tailored lines are good on me.

Eye makeup -- I surprised myself by using the Viseart dark mattes palette that I complained about; it always work when I want a very dramatic statement eye. I used the warm green tea and deep jade green on the lid and above crease, and then the lighter purple-blue in the outer v, and dark warm marine navy along the lash line.
Lipstick -- the ever delightful Wet 'n Wild Jam With Me. It feels like glossy lip balm to wear! I mean that! (I need to buy 12 tubes and stash them away. I will cry if and when they ever discontinue it.)

Jacket: Torrid, secondhand

Dress: Amazon
Booties: Walmart (wearing out and need replaced this year)

Necklace: gifted
Other jewelry: costume, except heirloom wedding ring

Favorite images I've saved to my Pinterest that my outfit feels akin to. But I didnt' consult them when forming my outfit. They probably had been steeping inside me and kind of came out.

Well, duh, of course people were falling all over themselves to get near to you and offer compliments! You look sensational!! Just WOW!!!

That dress is beyond wonderful on you. Did you knot it yourself on the bottom or did it come that way? I would triplicate in multiple fab colours for you (assuming it's available in other great colours -- maybe brown, burnt orange, wine?). It's so easy, elegant, and unusual.

This really does feel like a glorious 80s callback. With the jacket, the shape of the necklace (those art deco influenced shapes in jewellery were very popular back then) your beautiful hair, the makeup. You remind me of a beautiful friend of mine from the 80s. Truly rockstar gorgeous.

I don't think you need to choose between sweaters and jackets. What about...easy jersey dresses as the outfit base (agree with Suz about duplicating if possible!), soft shawls/cardis for at-home mom life, shed the top layer and pop on a structured jacket when you go out and about? In other words, por que no los dos?

It's a fantastic, hit-it-out-of-the-ballpark look, so I can see why you felt so good (and turned some heads when you were out and about!). I love everything about this look: the color and style of the dress suit you perfectly, and the tailored jacket looks fab! Accessories are so on point (love the longer pendant necklace--I have been wearing a few longer necklaces lately, after being off them for a while, and they look super chic to me again), and your hair and make up are 100% awesome!

I think dresses and tailored jackets could be such a winning formula for you. Milk it, as Angie says :)!

well, lovely Suz, I took your advice and ordered the dress in two more colors: a deep warm plum/purple and deep wine The vendor has expanded their colors quite a bit. The knot at the hemline was all me!! It really adds a lot, I think. Thank you for such amazing compliments! I love the 80s reference, and that I remind you of a special friend <3

Lee, I ordered another jacket. I don't know if it will be any good on me. Since I ordered it secondhand, I feel I'm taking a risk. Will report back.

SarahD8, that is a great idea! I will keep that in mind. I'm not ready to give up sweaters, that's for sure. But I do love shorter jackets a lot.

Angie, the best way I can describe how I felt in that outfit is that I felt really beautiful -- not like I was plus size trying to hide for being plus size. I dont' say that in a negative way at all. I've just felt like I was dressing to kind of work around my current size. This outfit felt entirely different.
