Today's outfit is very very different from yesterday's, so be forewarned! It's also pretty different from what I normally wear/anything I'm likely to post here again...

While digging through my closet yesterday, I rediscovered a hood/scarf combo thing I bought a while ago that looks a bit like a cat. Since my cat had to go to the vet today and was very very Displeased about it, I thought I'd wear it for a bit of cat solidarity (I don't think she appreciated it, really, but it made me feel better).

When I was in college, before fashion was anything to me other than something that people with more time and money than me were interested in, I was really in love with Japanese street fashion. Its existence as a sort of tribal uniform to create a separate identity group in a country obsessed with the in-group/out-group distinction is really fascinating to me, and for the couple of summers I spent interning in Japan, I would wander around places like Harajuku and Shibuya coveting all of the pretty things. I did manage to pick up a couple of things both summers there, and when I was back at school and feeling terrible (usually because I'd pulled some sort of terrible allnighter and been in lab for 26 hours straight - thanks robotics class!), I'd put on one of these outfits to make myself feel more fabulous. My style's evolved and changed a lot since then, but I still like to go back to it occasionally. (Not sure how long I'll be able to! I was reminded when I put this together last night that I'm starting to be a long ways from 18.)
