WIW Red tweed jacket and Bordeaux cardi plus new shoes

Dear Fabbers,

Today’s (Sunday) outfit is an experiment with an old red tweed jacket (Escada, bought over 10 years ago). I combined it with Kenzo scarf from the 90ies - red knitted cotton blend with applied silk flowers. I have not worn this one for ages. Under the jacket I wore a bright yellow top peaking out. I added blue wide leg jeans (bought last year), blue oxfords and a small blue handbag in the same shade as the shoes. (No 1 and 2).

My new Bordeaux patent leather shoes have arrived, so the next outfit is trying them on with black wide leg trousers, black blouse and Bordeaux knitted Chanel style cardi. I added a silk scarf with a bit artsy pattern (No 3). The last picture (No 4) is with a big black drawstring bag.

What do you guys think about the outfits? Does the yellow work under the short red jacket? And does the large black bag work with the second outfit? I tried to create a juxtaposition with the unstructured bag, not sure it works though. Feedback and styling ideas are much appreciated as always.

Katerina, you wear wide leg pants the best way, they suit you perfect, both. The red jacket and scarf are beautiful and, why not yellow? The next outfit is my favorite, red patent shoes are awesome and with bordeaux cardi and wide leg pants fantastic. The bag is very interesting and you can wear large bag.

Both outfits are fab. Relaxed and polished with a very elegant swish due to the wide legs. You look great in these not-quite-as-formal pants looks.

Great outfits! The shade of the red in outfit 1 is lovely.

I think that the yellow works fine. It is unexpected but not jarring.

In outfit 2, the pants are very flattering, and I think that the unstructured bag works very well against the very tailored outfit.

Love the shoes! The color is gorgeous.

That red jacket is just gorgeous and such an unexpected colour pairing with the yellow but it really works with the scarf tying everything together.Those new shoes look fab!

As usual, you nailed it! I love outfit #2 with the new shoes and the large bag -- it works to my eye. And the yellow in #1, while not expected, is happy and works well with the scarf. As others have said, you wear wide legs like nobody's business. So flowy and elegant, especially #2.

I LOVE the yellow with the red. Very spring-y look. And what a beautiful flowered scarf.
The second outfit is good too! The wide legs look really nice with your new shoes.
And actually I wonder if the new shoes would work with the red applique scarf too? Red and burgundy can be such an interesting tonal color combo.

SarahD8, you are right. The shoes would work with the red scarf. I have a red and burgundy colour blocked bag, that could be a nice complement. Thanks for the idea.

Jane, thank you very much for the kind words. My hair is far from striking - usually worn in a bun or a pony tail. It is cut straight across my back. I often think about a change, but this style is so low maintenance and comfortable, so I keep the same all the time.

I am so glad you Fabbers like the red jacket. I struggle a bit with styling it, because it is a bit too short to be flattering on me.

Outfit 1
I love the yellow of the blouse peeking out under the red jacket. I think it's a perfect solution to extending the line of a jacket that feels too short. Although I love your use of scarves, and this one is stunning, I wonder how this outfit would look without it, or with it tied shorter so as not to interfere with the line of the jacket?

Outfit 2
Once again you amaze with your elegance in wide legs. This outfit took my breath away. My preference would be for a smaller more streamlined purse, I think the slouchy flares provide all the width on the bottom that this look needs.

You are an inspiration as always.

Both outfits work beautifully! I did notice the big black bag as being the one thing I might change, but the overall effect is still excellent.

Two beautiful outfits - I love how pretty the red and yellow look together, with the scarf tying it all together (pun intended)! As for outfit 2, that is classic Katerina - the new shoes are a great addition to your wardrobe. I hope they are as comfortable as they are stylish.

L'Abeille, thank you very much, it is really helpful. I tried to have the scarf tied shorter, the ends at the same level as the hem of the jacket. I thought it was not flattering, I enclose that picture here. The length of this jacket is difficult...

Both outfits are really beautiful on you - and I don't mind the yellow top under the red jacket at all! The red floral scarf is gorgeous, but I thought the same thing as l'abielle in that the jacket might be better with out the scarf? I realize I have said this before about your scarves, which are so much bigger and longer than any I wear - so it could just be my eye not being used to such dramatic long scarves . Take that for what it's worth

Bijou, thank you very much. The shoes are actually not super comfortable, I am contemplating sending them back for that reason... They are not bad, but I have some pumps which are more comfortable. These are a bit stiff in the leather. Question is if it is not worth to wait for the perfect pair ...

I always struggle with this particular jacket. I like it a lot - the colour, the textures, the fit over the shoulders. But I struggle with the length. I always try to kind of extend it visually somehow and to hide my mid section. It cuts me off at the wrong place. The jacket is a part of a suit, actually. There is a matching skirt with a rather high waist and a zipper on the side. That skirt does not fit me very well anymore. I try to use the jacket, but it is not the first one I reach for.

What to do? How to make a short jacket work with trousers? How to layer in a good way?
