WIW Red and Black

Another WIW to Church post. 90% of my outfit posts will be church outfits, as my day job is that of a painter and woodworker, so I necessarily wear very old clothes and paint aprons from Mon to Fri.

It's mid winter here, but the day has proved quite sunny and the temperatures are mild. I took the chance to pull one of my knee length dresses out again, as I haven't been able to wear them for several weeks, due to the weather.

I am a photography enthusiast as well, so I must say I enjoy taking these photos!

Dots and red are a natural combination, and you wear hats beautifully.

Painting and woodworking? Sounds like a wonderful job -- physical, but also creative. It makes sense that Sunday would be dress-up day!

Beth Ann, I own and run a nursery decor manufacturing and retail business. We make and sell accessories for baby nurseries: bookends, mobiles, curtain holdbacks, shelves and etc. It's a lovely job to have!

I love photography, it's one of my favourite hobbies, so taking outfit photos is fun in more than one way.

LACeleste: I am so lucky to have the business I do. We've been in operation for 9 years now and I still absolutely LOVE my work. Between painting, photography, fashion and interior design... I'm a little obsessed with beauty.

Frances, you look so pretty, and the black/white/red combo really suits you beautifully.

Well done on the photos! Very nice job with lighting and posing. I admire photographers who turn the camera on themselves -- I am a full-time fine art photographer and HATE being in front of a camera (in fact, I rarely photograph people at all). iPhone selfies will just have to do for my WIWs -- I've been called out before for taking crappy outfit photos, but if I pull out a tripod and my "big girl camera" for outfit photos, I know I will quickly go down the rabbit-hole of perfectionism and spend way too much time editing and trying to make myself look modelesque. And I'm far from modelesque. :-/

Your job sounds just marvelous, and those samples you showed are adorable. Isn't it such a blessing to be able to make a living doing work you love?

I hear you on the "perfection" issue. Portraits are my favourite genre of photography though, so I usually enjoy selfies. I use a remote for my Canon 600D, which makes it a lot easier! That said, selfies are a whole lot more challenging than being behind the lens.

Have you ever tried selfies with a remote? It is really quite a lot of fun!

Heheh, no, I've avoided self-portraits even with a remote. In fact, to the point where I really need a new photo to accompany my bio (my old one is over 6 years old), but I have almost considered hiring one of my portrait photographer friends to shoot it for me. I just don't like how I look in pictures -- I have way too many awkward facial expressions and bad angles. Oddly enough, I seem to look best from straight on, and smiling. I'm too old and vain to enjoy seeing myself in pictures. Too bad I never took any of myself when I was younger and cuter.
