WIW... rather dull - YouLookFab Forum

Hello everyone.

I haven't posted a WIW recently because frankly I am just not that excited by what I am wearing.

As I have mentioned before, the summer heat came on strong and I just don't have a wardrobe I love for it. Yet. And things are changing in my life with the new job. I start on the 2nd of January. Depending on how my resignation goes, I may or may not be unemployed in December. I have decided that I perhaps need to save what I would have spent on summer wardrobe items in case of that. I am also going to have to invest in some new work wear for next year so at the moment I am just sucking it up and working with what I have. And taking this time to try and lose a little weight!

One of the reasons I really don't love summer clothing is the fact that I can't cover up. There are no layers to disguise the curves that I don't like. We are finally having some great rain and the temperatures are lower than they have been in a while. I was happy to say hello to my boots and my long black cardi again. I am having a very quiet day alone in the office so I dressed quite casually.

I do love seeing you in purple/plum tones. I like this outfit on you. I like the finishing touch of nail polish and lippy, really nice!

Hmmmmmm, I can totally relate
I much prefer winter when I can layer and disguise those bumps, I'll be living on mangos soon, that will help
Last year I did find a lovely draped, sheer cardi with short sleeves that I have just about worn to death. It goes over just about everything I wear from casual to evening and provides enough cover that I don't feel exposed but still keep cool. ( I'm in Queensland )
The brand is Flower and they do sell online, a little pricey but I found worth the money.
If you look online you may find something similar closer to home
You look great in this outfit, comfy and put together and plum is your colour.

Dull? No way. You look both chic and comfy. I hear you on the lack of love for summer clothing. I find it hard to look pulled together when I cannot layer.

Hil we are continents and decades apart but I could have written your post almost word for word. The lack of excitement is because I haven't got my hot weather wardrobe together yet and the heat is already here. I'm not ready for summer, hell it's only October and we're already into the thirties. I'm trying to lose a bit of pud that's snuck up on me over winter and is making me feel uncomfortable in my clothes. As for buying, I'm in a holding pattern due to an upcoming O/S trip.
So I fully sympathise with where you're at.

I just started posting WIW again myself after a long hiatus during which I wore things I felt no enthusiasm about at all.

I do like the proportions in your outfit and the purple/black is lovely on you. I think you have done well mixing print with solid and different textures.

Hil, Thanks so much for posting this look. My life's much more casual than in my workaholic days and I'm on YLF to learn how to dress for my real life and enjoy it. I spend most of my time wearing my "clothes that don't matter" while my once-beloved blazers and pencils go unworn. I'll be trying the blazer-with-a-hoodie look for tomorrow's grocery shopping errands. Woo hoo! So, do know that your casual look is just what I need. Flattering color knit top, cardigan and pants in a versatile neutral - so that's how it's done.
P.S. I have to share my thoughts about the seasonal change. We've put summer behind us and I'm already feeling sorry for myself. I hate winter and winter clothes! The thicker fabrics and layers make me look and feel bulky. I feel weighed down and, since I am likely to be less active, may add on pounds of real weight! And boots are a nightmare for me to fit. At heart I'm a barefoot girl. Here's hoping we both have mild seasons to deal with.
