WIW: Rainy Day & Help styling Docs

I am truly madly deeply in love with these boots and can get a lot of wear out of them when I'm working outdoors. But I'm struggling with how to style them in other settings and they are so comfy that I want to wear them more!

It's rainy here today so I paired them with coated Vigoss jeans, a drapey white top from Anthro and a scarf. I promise the jeans don't look as sausagey in real life, I think it's the combination of camera flash and the coating.

It kinda makes me happy to be a 50 year old woman wearing the same shoes my college kids girlfriends are wearing. But I don't want to be a Mutton either.

What do ya'll think?

I'd love suggestions on other ways to wear these boots. I've seen
Shannon combine beautifully with skirts, but as I mentioned in my post
yesterday, I'm challenged to find the right hem length with ankle
boots.

great outfit! Well skinnies are a slam dunk, some drapey pants might work too (track pant type?), simple dresses (fit and flare might be too teenage, but hi-low and waist surrendering styles are worth a shot). They probably look better with shorter skirts because of the lace-up height and flat heel, so then it's a matter of finding shorter skirts that read more sophisticated than teen?

What about wearing them with a VC tube skirt (knee-length) and drapey or diagonal hem sweater?

The outfit looks great! Good suggestions already, wanted to add that a pencil skirt could be a fun juxtaposition with the boots. You could also try longer skinnies tucked in and then pulled out a bit for a rougher look; I'd don a sleek top half with this (like a silk button-up shirt).

You don't look sausage-like at all. Those skinnies look great on you.

I think the trick to putting booties or ankle boots with skirts/dresses is to keep the skirt fairly sleek and at the knee or an bit above to show a bit of leg. It can work if you get the proportions right.

Aida - those a great examples! I have looked on Pinterest but I was searching dr martens. Maybe I should search lace up boots instead because I didn't find any of those looks. Thank you!

Dianthus - thank you for saying that. I'm definitely going to play around with skirt look and length. I'm realizing I'm such a pants girl....I've got to find my groove on dresses and skirts.

Surrendering the waist just means wearing clothing that doesn't show the waistline. Usually something looser or draping without clear definition.
I am an hourglass and have a really hard time with this concept.

lol, apologies. My understanding is like dianthus said. For example Angie's shirtdress ensembles recently didn't have belted waists, they hung straight, another example would be some of the dresses that Shannon wears or sack dresses. If one likes it and it works with your body type it can be a more contemporary dress shape.
