WIW: polos-my coworker said this looks like private school teacher outfit

the other day I wore my blue Ralph Lauren polo and pensil skirt to work, only to hear my coworker declare that this looks like something a "private school teacher would wear". Oh dear..does it?

Polo from RL, skirt from BR

the second outfit is just something I wore on Sat to run errands-once again polo and jeans. Headscarf is from Coach, jeans from Express, polo from Aeropostale

I worked in a private school for nearly a decade and I'd say that even if the teachers wore this to work, there would be nothing wrong with that. It's a bit preppy, but with your fab short hair, earrings, sandals and great-fitting skirt, I think a little preppy suits you well! Now, if this were a holiday themed sweater and baggy wide-wale corduroys, we'd have to talk

Huh, I wonder if people just automatically make the polo shirt -> prep -> school -> teacher association?

Anyhow, the length of your skirt and your cool sandals mitigates any teacher-ish associations to me. Very modern prep!

I think the association was made because so many private schools designate polo shirts for their required uniform. However, when I see the students dressed this way it is usually a white, navy blue or red polo shirt. One time I had to buy some supplies at a Radio Shack store and the young salesclerk asked me if I was eligible for an educational/teacher's discount. I said NO and wondered why he asked. Then I realized that I was wearing a navy blue polo shirt.

Your polo shirts are very stylish and in fashionable colors. I think you are okay with this look.

You can totally rock this polo. I can't speak for private school teachers, but the way you accessorized (love the scarf) and put the outfits together gives it that casual/preppy yet chic vibe!

Your friend is correct. A teacher could totally wear that to work. Doesn't mean it looks bad or inappropriate!

I don't know what private school teachers wear, but your polo outfits are fun. You give a little cheeky nod to preppy, with the oversized polo logo on the first, along with your hoop earrings, and the 70s inspired headscarf in the second.

Well, I'm a public school teacher, and I'd wear that to work - and I like to think that I dress fashionably. It's slightly preppy but I don't think it has a school uniform appearance at all. I love the colors of both tops - bright blue and apple green - they both look fantastic on you.

imo, if it was a prep school teacher outfit, the skirt would have been a khaki chino skirt.
