WIW: Polka Dots and Bomber Jacket

Been a while since I posted. I’ve been super duper busy with mom life and selling my handknits. I’ve also had some health flareups. Just couldn’t keep up with posting. But popping by to say hello. Here’s my Saturday errands outfit.

Dress: Old Navy Spring 2019
Jacket: TJ Maxx
Sandals: Haviananas
Lipstick: Love Is On, Revlon
Charm bracelet: thrift store find

I call this my USO outfit. The dress is reminiscent of the 1940s to me, and the jacket is a fabulous drab olive green in a bomber style. Somehow I feel like an Old Hollywood starlet borrowing a military jacket at a USO show.

Dress...one issue: I wish it was longer. ON promptly sold out of the tall length in my size. The length feels a little Shirley Temple to me when I’m wearing it. But I just adore the style and print so much, I had to keep it. It is definitely not playground friendly. And I honestly don’t feel like wearing shorts under skirts. (I’m always tugging them down because my thighs rub together.)

Would lengthening it with a lace edging or visible slip look strange? I’m not thinking square dance crinoline or ruffles. Just a simple deep edging to lengthen it.

Jacket: it’s a super wonderful linen-rayon blend. It does tend to hike up my neck and pull down when I’m sitting in a car or chair. Rather annoying. Otherwise I love it. It’s a really fun alternative to a denim jacket for spring and summer wear. I rarely wear olive but I’ve been wearing it more and more. As long as I am careful to wear enough makeup (and keep lipstick/blush really cool colored) and accessories, it works fairly well.

Decided on a super cool red lipstick. It’s one of my favorites. One light coat and it is almost raspberry red instead of deep cool crimson. Bracelet is just something fun. Sandals aren’t my favorite but they are comfortable. Would prefer a leather t-strap or gladiator sandal.

Gorgeous lip colour ! Perfect for you . I love the olive bomber too, that's a favourite jacket colour of mine, and I find olive works with everything . And you're right about having to make sure the makeup is right . (too many rights in that sentence, but whatever )

As to the dress? I can see how it would be short for hanging in playgrounds - I think I might try it with cropped leggings . Might be too twee, but worth trying anyways. I am always pulling down the legs of those undershort things too, which drives me nuts.

Your make-up and hair looks so pretty.

Try a broad lace edge on the hem, if you have the mood to make that happen. Or pop on a pair of leggings and wear the dress as a tunic.

They make lace extenders https://www.graceandlace.com/c.....t-extender, but I’d be more inclined to look for Capri leggings. You look good. Nice jacket and makeup. I do like to have more length too. I don’t understand why they make so many dresses so short. I’m happy for the midis out there these days.

And coloring perhaps - olive brings out my eyes, but I need something cool along with it or I look ill. So you are sort of obliged to share your lipstick find with me. I don't think the dress is too short for what it's worth.

The olive definitely brings out your eyes! Can't hurt to add lace to the dress if it bothers you!

Lisa, Olive is growing on me!! I have a deep moss green down coat that I have totally fallen in love with as well. Leggings... that’s a good idea! I’ll have to see how I feel in them with the dress. I think I’m afraid of the twee feeling as you put it. But we’ll see!

Angie, thank you kindly I am pretty into knitting and have sewn. So I’m up for lengthing it. I was thinking lace too I have some leggings I might try it with. It just feels odd to me.

Delurked, I’m going to check out that website! Thanks for mentioning it. Short dresses... on the model it was an inch above the knee. Lol! On me...3+ Inches. I think my being tall doesn’t help. But yes, dresses seem to be going back to shorter lengths after the midi trend. I loved the midi length for comfort though sometimes it felt a little to “church lady” to me especially with flats. (I guess I’m too picky for my own good )

Shevia, hello my friend! Somehow I feel we are kindred spirits, perhaps even twins? I didn’t know we had the same eyes! That is so rare, I never meet other people with my eye color. How fun to know you! So... the lipstick is Revlon’s Love Is On. It is such a beautiful cool red! Very pigmented. But it isn’t so bright that it’s too bright. Some of the cool reds are so clear they almost verge on neon to my eye. I need my reds pigmented and cool but a bit shaded I think?

Such a great look and I really like the dress. Adding a lace edge would be beautiful or even a plain black border for extra length. You always have the most immaculate hair and make-up, that lipstick colour is stunning on you.

Torontogirl, thank you! Leggings is the easier choose but I’m still leaning torwards an edging. I’ve been considering maybe wearing it with tights this winter. And if I’m adding heels to it, it needs length. Hope you love the lipstick! It is gorgeous! And it smells of raspberries and roses! It took me a while to love the shade. It was so cool and intense to me at first. But I love it and wear it regularly.

The Cat, much thanks! I’m finally starting to repeat color, i.e. eyes, hair etc. it feels harder because I have so so much warmth in my eyes and skin. But I need cool colors to keep from being washed out or ruddy. Still learning.
