My semester is starting back up, so naturally I have been preoccupied with what I'm going to wear :). It's still pretty warm, so layering, which I love to do, is trickier. Thought I would share my outfits, though I know I just posted a thread yesterday! I guess I'm feeling the skirts, probably since I haven't worn them all summer and they scream "time to get back to being professional"!

#1: For a meeting and meet-the-students thing: J. Crew silk blouse, Madewell striped skirt (bought with Sveta in July), Vaneli booties, Target webbed belt.

#2: For a 4-hour faculty meeting (I'm guessing the A/C will be blasting): DVF jacket, Asos graphic t-shirt, Paige maroon skinnies, Cheap Monday booties, Target distressed silver belt.

#3: For the first night of one of my classes at which I need to appear authoritative (I always wear a jacket on the first day to these sorts of classes): Bailey 44 gray jacket, AT petal 'n pearl top, J. Crew patterned skirt, same Cheap Monday booties, J. Crew studded cream belt.

#4: Close-up shot of the shirt, belt, and skirt. Love the textural interplay :).

#5: First day of class for a more laid back class (a handful of doctoral students, seminar-style): Asos top, J. Crew skirt, Antelope ankle strap sandals.

The last two are typical casual looks. I got this denim skirt at the Rack when I met Sveta for our NAS get-together, and I love it! I've worn it tons--I am very into frayed edges with dangling bits lately :).

#6: For shopping with my daughter: Citizens of Humanity skirt, Madewell print linen knit top (also bought with Sveta in July), Cheap Monday booties.

#7: For going out to lunch, shopping, and doctor's appointment with my daughter: same skirt, UO cloud top semi-tucked, same booties.

Frank feedback always desired!

Awesome everything. I am totally infatuated with that top on #3 - #4 and the jean skirt in #6 and #7 but there is no bad outfit here.

Love the shirt in #5. #1 is good. Love the texture mish-mash in #4.

All of the interest in #3 is making me swoon! I love these, and of course we don't expect any less from you Jonesy. I'm loving the cut of the short sleeved boxy tops in 5, 6 & 7. The necklines are just right. I hope these start showing up at a location near me!

Well, it will be a week of awesomeness. Love the horizontal lines of the shoes & top of #5. But my favorite is #3/4, there's just so much interesting detail going on.

oh my gawd...which to comment on? the AT top...the contast is superb! love those shooties and the brown jacket...all the outfits look great! You have great style. playful, interesting, fun, and still, adult and authorative. That is alot of message you send via clothes

Oh sheez, these are FANTASTIC. I am particularly taken with the bright blouse and the black (navy?) and white skirt in #1, and I LOVE that denim raw-edge skirt with the box tops. And I love everything else, except for the fact that you have a FOUR-HOUR FACULTY MEETING. Good luck with the beginning of the semester : )

Holy cow, do you look amazing or what? I LOVE #7 because it is just so perfect--casual with a fun edge from the sandals. My faves of Professor Jonesy are---who am I kidding? They are all fab. I really love the striped skirt paired with the bright shirt. It's bold and playful and sophisticated all rolled into one! The textural element of 3 is just so cool--of course, I'm wondering how one launders a top like that but whatever the process it is just so worth it! Love the Asos top in 5--great print and such a flattering neck line. Love the sleeves too. You have killer style!

It would be very hard for me to keep my attention on the classroom material, because I would keep waiting for a class break to ask you, my professor, where you shop!

OMG! #3 is simply the best in every way: the texture, the color, the interesting detail in each piece. Every item is lovely.

I adore #1 for its bright and cheery effect and #7 just gives me such a peaceful, easy feeling.

You will definitely have the classroom's attention! Wonderful, Jonesy (and I hope they are a great bunch of students, too).

Really, really great!!! I love the minimalism of #5. It's polished yet easy so if everyone else is really casual, you'll be fine. #3 sets off that authoritative tone yet is so modern and stylish, your students will know you are in-the-know. I think it's awesome that you can wear outfit #2 to a faculty meeting -- this is not a conservative outfit. Your summer casual formula is like mine except I wear knee-length shorts and more open footwear. So comfortable.

I bought that top at AT on a whim (it was 30% day or something) and once I got it home I was puzzled by how to style it and play down its sweetness. So thanks! Kellygirl, re. laundering: I'm sure I will Dryel it like I do everything else that's dry clean only :).

Zap, you are too funny. Maybe I should rent a blimp or something the next time and fly it over NYC :)? Thanks for the denim skirt love. I purged a few denim skirts about a year ago, but I fell in love with this one and its raw edges, distressed-ness, and longer hemline.

Anna, that Asos top would match your Preen for Aldo shoes, sort of-ish. I think it's pretty clearly Preen-inspired, or a rip-off of Preen, depending on your POV :).

Sarah, thanks for the commiseration on the 4-hour faculty meeting. It's unfortunately a fall tradition.....Then I have another 4-hour "planning retreat" for one of our programs the following day. Man. The stripes in the skirt in #1 are black, which is one of the reasons I loved it when I saw it (vs. the more common navy, especially in the spring and summer).

Joy, thanks for the footwear comments. I definitely don't have too many pairs (at least relative to many fabbers) but the ones I do have, I love.

ETA: Thanks Debbie! Thanks Denise! Yes, I will be pretty dressed up, actually, for the faculty meeting :). The Associate Director, for example, will be wearing long shorts and a t-shirt, most likely, so very casual is the norm. I love your summer style, so I appreciate the comparison!

Rent that blimp and bring the hand me downs. I'll take them sight unseen. I love the quirky footwear choices too. I'm always shopping for unique shoes as well.

Jonesy, this is the second time I viewed the outfits because it took me that long to absorb all of your fabness! What are you going to wear this winter when those peep-toe booties no longer work?!? Amazing how they go with EVERYTHING.

I am now off to my closet to attempt to recreate some of your outfits. Seriously, they are all incredible.

Wow. Just WOW!!!

I'm like Vicki. I keep imagining myself as a student in your class. Whatever I was supposed to be learning would be completely forgotten as I studied fashion at your fashion-forward feet!

These are ALL completely amazing but my faves are #1 and #1. The bright top with the stripes is so simple, sophisticated, and smart, while the contrasting textures and subtle pattern mix in #3 is, well, a work of art.

Love the way you detail all the subtle distinctions in academic settings --- when do we need to be authoritative and when do we need to be "approachable." Such an odd workplace fashion dynamic, isn't it?

You are master of your wardrobe and your workplace here, Jonesy. There is lots of variety here, but always an attention to detail. The vibrance of #1 is fab, the textures and detail of 3/4 are out of this work. And 7 --- well that's RATE and relaxed all at once.

I would take your class just to see what you would wear each day. I can't even pick a favorite, but will say this is perhaps the only denim skirt I have ever really loved on someone!

Laura, thanks for your kind comments. I would *love* to see your outfits :)! Yes, I do have a bit of a Gray Bootie Emergency on my hands. I have been frantically trying to find some gray ankle boots for the colder months, but nothing is working out. I have a pair that are a few years old, but the left one is just a little too snug (my left foot is 1/2 size bigger) and at this point I have to face facts that they aren't going to stretch out! I have another pair of gray boots heading my way via yoox.com right now....Crossing my fingers they will work.

Beth Ann, you have captured the different roles perfectly! With doctoral students, it's a bit more of a mentoring role, with masters students I need to be more authoritative, so my clothes need to reflect that.

Shevia, thanks for the thumbs up on the denim skirt! I am so sold on premium denim now: the denim is so soft, with just the right amount of distressing, and it doesn't bag out.

I am wild about #1 and #3 - so professional in YOUR stylish way, but #2 made me take another long look because putting that DVF jacket over skinnies and a tee is brilliant!

Unhemmed denim skirt is great. It's a natural for denim.

I also bow to your bootie/shoes collection -- pure fabness there!

Now that I've recovered, I can attribute it a KILLER to the power of KILLER rating. WOW!!! You in that colour purple is mesmerizing, and the skirt stripe is sublime! I'm glad that you're feeling your skirts again because they love you back

(I'm back to loving my skirts again too, btw).

Totally digging the burgundy jeans! Amazing texture mix in #3! Adoring the chic simplicity of #5, and the rugged casual looks *with a feminine touch* in #6 and #7. All glorious outfits - and quite different!

I can't even pick out one I love more than the others. I always especially look forward to your WIWs!

And I really must consider further investigation of the Asos website. I glance from time to time but have never pulled the trigger on anything from there.

I guess they are all a bit different from one another, despite being skirt-heavy (fun that you are back into your skirts--variety is the spice of life!). I am certainly having fun with style and I appreciate your kind comments.

Thanks, Janet! I have found some fun stuff on Asos, and it looks like their fall clothes are going to be fab. Shipping can sometimes take a while for me, but it's free both ways, which is bonus, and I think their distribution center is in NJ so you should get your shipment relatively quickly I'd guess.

Good grief but these are terrific! #1 and #3 are standouts to my eye, but all are great! I've got to give this planning thing a try - I never have any idea what I'm going to wear when I get up in the morning!!
