mad for plaid...still working on my Aida-project of mixing old pieces, preferably orphans, with new purchases.

#1: br tartan pants (old), br piped navy sweater (old), uniqlo heattech crew (new), belt via amazon (new), pointy toed flats (old), poncho (ssif, new)

#2: luciano barbera wide leg glen plaid pants via tjmaxx (super old), jcrew sweater (new), booties via yoox (old)

LOVE your new J. Crew sweater -- that is beautiful on you! And you are very successful with this project because without your text I can rarely figure out which items are new and which old.

I wish I could see these plaids...they are subtle. Which IRL is great.

Wow, I really like that ivory sweater on you, too. It really elevates the elegant bootcut trousers to a very hip look. The sleek, unusual booties are perfect with the outfit. The first outfit is totally fun. I like how the sweater, belt, and poncho add spunk to the prim little flats and plaid pants. I wonder if you have an animal print belt you could sub, too, as an option. Like a leopard or cheetah type print?

It's all in the CUT of the cream pullover. Leave no retail stone unturned. Many retailers - mainstream and designer - are trying to get this boxy cropped cut right, but so far - JCrew wins the prize. Trust me - I have had many styles on many bodies - and this is the winner. And on petite you - the silhouette is PERFECT.

The length is brilliant.
The curved hem is structured and very flattering. Slimming.
The vents are fun and in the right place. Great side view.
The back is a simiar length as the front
Cropped knitwear looks really good with roomier bottoms that move. Either tailored bootcuts, or flares, or slouchy pants. Remember my outfit below? Same outfit formula.

ok...i'm going to put together a bunch more wide leg outfits ---i seem to be in a wide leg mood. plus i finally fit into that side of the closet. who knows how long that will last!

BJ I really like the wide legged trouser on you and those booties are awesome. Your tartan pants look similar to the Lord and Taylor ones that both Shannon and I bought last year. They look really good with both the short top and the long sweater. All winners and I agree with Suz in that I would not have been able to pick out which pieces were not new.

I've been eyeing that DemyLee sweater for some time but can't justify the price. Unless you tell me how worth every penny it is! It is gorgeous. (And I think it's gone up by $50 since I last looked -- didn't recall it being over $300.)

Enough shopping.

You look fantastic … where do I start?!? The column of color in 1, the subtle plaid, the way the poncho lines pick up the geometry of the plaid. In #2 -- again, the sweater -- so perfectly shaped. And how genius to match it with an old pair of pants. They suddenly look cutting edge with that sweater.

ETA -- For some reason I was on the Canadian J Crew site, I switched flags and now the sweater's gone down to a mere $280.

Denise, this is bar none the most expensive sweater I have ever gotten and it's cotton and it's cream so soils easily. My hands were shaking as i clicked the buy button. I resisted wearing it because I kept thinking I should return it.

I'm still not sure it is worth it but it is the only sweater I have found to give the drape that I want where it stands away from the body and doesn't overwhelm and updates literally every bottom my closet except maybe leggings. I'll be wearing this thing with a pencil skirt next.

I am glad I got it but I'm still not sure I would get it again.

Fyi, it was 25% off last night so merely expensive rather than exorbitant.

There really are some pieces that are worth that extra money and this sweater definitely demonstrates that beautifully.. There are other places to make cutbacks... It truly has the versatility and if it updates all bottoms you already own, a wonderful investment to modernize looks... My new goal is to pull that trigger and spend more on pieces that offer this kind of use..So happy to see someone else do it with such success.. Thanks for sharing!
