WIW: plaid and ruffles - YouLookFab Forum

I tried a version of Angie's plaid shirt ensemble. My plaid shirt is an ombre plaid peasant blouse. Instead of a lace skirt, I wore one made of ruffled knit fabric.

The outfit (worn to work): burgundy, gray, and black ombre plaid wool gauze peasant blouse (made by me); ruffled-knit tube skirt (made by me); black sling-back Mary Janes (Think! Aida); black satchel (Elliott Lucca, Olvera); silver pave disk earrings (Lucky).

This outfit had a medium happiness factor. I like it the pieces, and I think I like them together, but the skirt isn't comfortable. I realize I need to make another one, or remake this one. The lining I put in it doesn't prevent it from being see-through, and so I have to wear a slip with it. And with the tight fit of the skirt, the slip bunches up repeatedly throughout the day--aaargh! That can definitely put a damper on one's outfit happiness, don't you think?

Great top! Skirt has to go if it is uncomfortable. I think a shorter or tucked length would work better with a skirt anyway!

Hard to see the details on the skirt--it's too bad it is not working out for you. I do like that plaid on you, though. Very flattering with your colouring.

Ah, now you see, I'd wear a plaid shirt like that as it isn't so much like a button-down. I really like the pairing with the skirt. Such a shame about the lining and slip bugging you because it looks great.

Top is lovely on you. As for a bunching skirt -- ARGH!! The worst. I wonder if this is one reason skirts sometimes go orphaned? It looks terrific, but if it annoys you, out it goes!

The shirt looks great, plays up your hair. I am sorry about the bunching skirt. I hate that, and you often can't tell until you are out of the house and stuck for the day!

The top is lovely and should be really versatile. Great colors, too! I prefer plaid with less contrast, like this one. Bunching skirts are terrible. I'm confident that you can whip up a new one in no time, to bring out a more happy expression on your face

Shevia and Emily, I would like to try the top tucked. I thought about a faux-tuck, but opted not to do it, just for a change. Seems like I faux-tuck every day!
Jackie and Tanya, I'm going to see how hard it is to rip out the skirt lining and replace it. I may just start all over--that could be easier, but I might not find the fabric again. I originally made the skirt without a lining, and the slip bunched then, too.
Suz, good observation on skirts. Finding the right slip is often hard. For me, skirts are hard, period, because I have trouble with proportions.

Too bad about the skirt.
The trouble with replacing the lining is that it may still bunch up, and then you're out a lot of time and trouble. I hope you get it figured out, because it looks really nice on you.
