WIW: pine and rust, new bday purse, another sweater project

I decided to have fun! New thrifted chunky cardigan in pine green paired with older blouse. I love mixing blue-greens with oranges. While not planned, I realized now that the cardigan is textured with ribbing (stripes) and the blouse has polka dots. So a bit of texture and pattern play.

We were road-tripping last weekend. The town we were in has a handmade leather purse/bag business there.. After an hour of deliberation I chose their crossbody messenger purse style in Nut Brown leather. I’ve been missing crossbody straps on purses. The leather is substantial, similar to saddle leather. It should last a lifetime and then some. It isn’t a wow purse for me like my burgundy fringe purse. I am worried the fringe purse’s soft leather will take a beating. This is a happy compromise for daily use!

Whisky brown flats complete the look. Simple makeup. My day involved homeschool co-op and being Band-aid Queen for a couple of precious kiddos who scraped their knees. It was nice to be casual and comfie.

Considering knitting a very 70s sweater in a daring (to me) color palette. We shall see how it goes! Blue is my hardest color to love and wear but I’ve been smitten with the idea of crimson, Smurf blue, wine, and blush ever since I ran across this dress photo.

Nice bag ! It will indeed be a lifer in your wardrobe. I also love the colour combo for your new sweater. I actually had a linen/cotton blouse in these same colours from Anthro that was my favourite for a few years - weird colours but I loved it!

The sweater and orange shirt are both fabulous, but it is the shirt that takes it home for me. It reminds me that yes! there is much more than tees out there. The purse is great--see only functional, but a real statement piece. And I love very specific color combinations. That should be a fun one to do.

I have a beautiful silk/cashmere scarf in a similar palette as that dress, Echo from Nordstrom several years ago. It’s a little too much red for me as it turns out (red is the one colour generally out of my comfort zone), but so pretty, I need to make an effort to wear it this winter.

Jules, thank you! Your scarf sounds stunning!! You know it's interesting red is difficult of you to wear. Concerning my struggle to wear blue... I was once told by a seasonal color analyst that the reason I might struggle with blue is it was likely I didn't a lot of blue represented in my natural coloring. (Not just verbatim blue, but blue in the pigments comprising hair color, etc.) It was a super interesting point and I really found it helpful as a possible explanation.

Interesting for sure, given our similar colouring! I have at times in my life worn quite a lot of blue, but it was somewhat dictated by what was available at retail. Now that there are tons of earth tones and greens, and I’ve had a size change, I have virtually no blue, red, pink, or purple left in my wardrobe.. And my dark neutral of choice went back to black after buying navy for quite a while.

Jules, do you think you'll switch to borrow for a neutral? Or are you happy with black? My skin goes ruddy with black. I've spent the last 2 years or so slowly switching over to brown, with some camel, charcoal, and navy for variety.

Oh I do wear lots of chocolate brown, and was always ‘collecting’ pieces as they became available during the dry years. I didn’t like black on me for a long time and still mostly wear it in pants, so away from my face. I do like black and white patterns: stripes, snakeskin, houndstooth etc, so they go welll with some black. 10-15 years ago all my graphic patterns were blue and white and navy was the backdrop. I feel more myself now for sure! The long term shifts in colour trends are so interesting.
