WIW: Pastels with earthy offsets

Yesterday while having a conversation on RachyLou's thread, something she told me really struck a cord. Earthy tones can make a pastel outfit look tougher ... hmm ... why didn't I think of that. I am not really a pastel girl. I think they could suit my complexion, but its never ever love at first sight for us.

I wore this outfit to DS's playdate today. I bought this top deliberately to try the pastel trend (I mean I would just look through this top usually! LOL!). Angie's Classics and Pastels ensemble came to my mind. I paired the blush (stone?) top with my light wash skinnies. To toughen the look, I added my brown cut out oxfords and brown wide belt. I chose my animal print bag to add some print and since I was still not satisfied I added some blue earrings too.

I didn't quite love or hate the end result. Kind of "whatever" feeling! LOL! It takes me a lot of time to warm up to less bright outfits! All neutral outfits are hard for me too! So what do you all think? Do these colors work on me? Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

I think you found the perfect balance between soft/sweet pastels and a tougher juxtaposition, and I love your outfit. The blush looks beautiful with the - on trend - light wash denim and the more saturated blues of your fun earrings, and both colours look great with the browns in your outfit. The fact that the jeans are skinnies and that your fab oxfords have a pointy toe also adds a bit of extra "structured strictness" to the pastels, to my eye. So mission accomplished

I really like the balance of the soft pastel with earthy colors. I'm especially liking the leopard print with the soft pink shirt. It's a combo that I wouldn't think would work well together but then seeing it on you makes me go, "Hmmm, that looks really nice together! I should try combining some leopard and pastel."

Windchime - The top is 100% viscose. I am too cheap to own a silk blouse LOL! I was rather surprised it was viscose because it looks too good for it!

I love the way you have put this outfit together! It's a really cohesive look! Pastels with leopard print- genius combo!

But I'm not sure the pastel makes you glow like some of the other colours I have seen you in. Adding pretty, sparkly, blue earrings was a nice way to keep your best colours close to your face!

Hi Neel! I saw "pastels" and "earthy offsets," thought *how timely,* and had to come right over to see this if and how it works in IRL. Lol. Did not at all make the connection to our earlier discussion.

I'm thrilled to see how well it works!! Your oxfords are the ideal shade of brown, and the pointy-toe so with it. That's pastel with some backbone. I'm very excited to try it myself. (Oh, what in my closet is brown?! :D)
