WIW: Over 40 & Short Shorts - YouLookFab Forum

I confessed yesterday that I love to wear short shorts. Not obscenely short shorts, but a 3" inseam short shorts. In fact, both days this last weekend, I wore short shorts. Angie's formula resonated perfectly with me since it illustrated several of the ways I wear them. Always with something loose, boxy or boyish.

This is what I wore on Saturday: A huge splurge, but incredible value, Trina Turk blouse from a few years back that is an amazing workhorse. Loft linen blend shorts. A pair of nude suede low wedge sandals.

Also, I'm thinking about lopping off the extra fabric for the bows on the shirt sleeves and making it a button closure. Two small buttons, like on the neckline. What do you think? Will it ruin the '50 touring Europe in a peasant shirt integrity of the blouse? Or modernize it?

Wow! I think you rock those shorts! And yes, why not take off the bows if you want, I think the sleeves would look good with buttons instead.

I vote yes on the redo of the sleeves. I think the blouse will have a cleaner look without the ties.

You look great in those shorts! I like the neckline of the shirt but not the bows on the sleeves (I'm anti-bow everything lately though) so taking the bows off sounds good to me.

Another over 40 shorts wearer approval over here! I think the looser fit on the legs is key when shorts get less than 4"

I wouldn't alter the top, I think the laces at on the sleeves give it a less constricted feeling than if you would close them with buttons.

That's the way to do it. A very polished, pulled-together look.

I actually vote no on the bows. Bows are hard to do, but this is really working. They add interest and make the top equal to the tailored, brightly patterned shorts and pretty sandals. Without them, I feel the top would become plain and not able to hold its own.

Wow! I walked away for a little lunch and you all were very very busy! Thanks, ladies for all the awesome comments. Rachylou and Celia, you put your thumb right on why I'm torn about the bows. I'm a little concerned that removing them will take away some of its personality, but I'm also a little concerned that the bows are limiting my wear on it and making it feel just a little dated. It will be interesting to see where the collective wisdom of the forum comes out. So far, the bows are getting wacked, but who knows....

I wear shorts like this too, they help me look leggier. Tried on a pair of shorts that my 16 year old niece ended up buying in Hawai'i - I think they had a negative inseam but was surprised I liked the look.

These shorts and the whole outfit look wonderful on you! Torn about the sleeves but I think I would be very tempted to replace with buttons because on me they would come undone every 5 minutes.

If my legs looked that awesome in short shorts, I'd wear 'em too! (not quite in the 40 club, but will be this year - how did THAT happen?!)

But I digress....personally, not a huge fan of bows, so I like the idea of lopping them off. But I can see Rachy's point also...I guess I'm no help!
