From a pure foundation standpoint yesterday's outfit was actually pretty basic (jeans, booties, leather moto jacket). I chose to use two strong but solid colors (orange and teal) and then let the accessories do all the talking (and at this point I'm absolutely certain my nail color choices are subconsciously affecting my clothing choices since I realized after I was dressed that my nails actually matched my shirt and boots).
Someone once asked me to describe my style beyond the descriptors eclectic and/or quirky (which can mean many things and many styles).
My response was " Hmm, maybe boho biker rocker chic?" (although admittedly most of my more boho pieces are geared towards spring/summer so you see more rocker/biker in the winter months).
So this outfit probably represents that description pretty well.
The pattern mixing is purely in the accessories: the scarf (which I added purely for warmth because it was damned chilly by SoCal standards yesterday), the belt and the bag. They all include the primary orange and teal colors (and smaller doses of eggplant purple) and they all have a predominantly boho aesthetic to them.
I opted for the more loose fit BF jeans and decided not to roll them above the teal suede ankle boots. I think it went back to the warmth factor but actually preferred that look paired with the more fitted and snug cropped orange leather moto jacket.
...and most importantly, the whole outfit was really, really comfortable. Those teal suede booties are from a recent Zappos order and I'm really loving them (you can't see in the pics, they're a low vamp ankle length with an angled chunky heel of about 2 inches. They are incredibly comfortable. I never thought I'd buy Ivanka Trump shoes (Dunno. Something about celebrity branded shoes like Jessica Simpson or Trump just seems cheesy to me) but the reviews were so stellar and they were on sale for $104 --plus my 20% off coupon-- and they were in a color and style I had been looking for. So I ended up being very glad I chose to get them. They're a very nice quality for the price-point and exceptionally comfortable and easy to walk in.
So what do you think? Boho biker chic the appropriate style descriptor?
Orange leather cropped moto jacket: Skin Hub (via ebay)
Teal lace trimmed camisole/tank: Kohl's
BF jeans: Aeropostale Bayla BFs
Teal Suede Ankle Boots: Ivanka Trump (via Zappos)
Bag: Isabella Fiore Shakyamuna Buddha (via Bloomie's annual sale over 10 years ago)
Orange and purple Scarf: thrifted
Embroidered purple leather belt: Lucky brand (via Long Beach flea market a couple of weeks ago for $10 --the original $75 price tags were still on it. Woot!)
Sterling and amber earrings: via a yard sale on Cape Cod like 20 years ago
Carnelian, silver and gold spinner ring: gift from BF
Coral, garnet and silver hands necklace: Antique (bought it from a little bazaar antiques shop while traveling in the Old City in Fez, Morocco back in 2009. The hand symbology was very prevalent in middle eastern jewelry. In this case the hands were meant to swat away evil so it could not get near you. I loved hearing the story from the shopkeeper and he was a hoot at how many times he asked me if I'd trade my smart phone for the necklace!)
***apologies for the weird bunching on the jacket's arms in the photos. I was in a hurry yesterday morning and hadn't yet adjusted the sleeves so they were a bit bunched up around the elbow area, which makes the jacket look a bit weird in the photos. It doesn't lay that way really when I wear it.***
