WIW: November looks

Here is a bit of a round up of some recent looks this month. They are mostly casual this time around.

1) Very casual - watching tennis in the sunshine. A new top (Just Jeans - on sale) which will be great for summer sport. I have not worn this blue for a long time. Also new sandals (bought on clearance in Sydney).

2) Worn on a "Fine Homes Tour" A kimono from four years ago worn with a basic new black tee (Kowtow), jeans (Nobody) and new slides (Rollies). This is a day out where you look at fantastic houses and gardens for the day and raise money for charity.

3) Seen before - in response to a blog last week. My 1970s look.

4) Worn on Saturday to yet more tennis - it was inspired by the Olive, black and cream ensemble ( a wild crazy hairdo here sorry and a poor quality photo)

5) Worn Sunday to a neighbourhood night in the park (sports, fish and chips for dinner etc) A new shirt which I purchased to do double duty as a beach cover up and to protect my shoulders and arms on hot sunny days. Jon loved this look - it is my first collared shirt in several years. A very casual piece.

6) A summer look for working from home. I struggle with this chevron tunic but I can't quite get rid of it? Footwear is the problem - do these work?

7) A new dark teal dress worn to a meal out with friends. This dress can be worn multiple ways - tied at the front, or back. I wore it with a vintage necklace and my black bolero as it was a windy night. It is a lovely dress with lots of movement.

And some roses from my garden and my Mum's garden because it is a lovely month here for flowers.

There are several new pieces here.

- Kilt dress
- Kowtow tee
- Rollies slides
- Two Just jeans shirts

I have almost completed my summer shopping now except for new sunglasses and possibly a denim or similar jacket.... The slides are brilliant and so comfortable (recommend to Kiwi or Australian fabbers).

The first three pieces are NZ/Australian labels - the last is an Australian chain store.

ETA: My iphone pics seem to be deteriorating - not quite sure why!! And I am not at all sure on reflection about looks 4 and 5....

Thanks Krish - do you mean the dress or the jeans?

I look at three of these pics and think I look a hot mess actually but part of that is my expression and the lighting (I hope).

I originally meant the jeans but I love the dress too! I like all of the above franckly. The dress is very fun and I like that you chose to wear it with silver sneakers. It adds a personal touch and helps making the dress less popping, in a strange sense, which makes it more approachable. I you had worn it with say, black footwear, it would have seemed too matchy-matchy. This way, the dress becomes understated and the outfit has a good, casual vibe.

Thanks - I know what you mean.. the dress is quite a statement but the statement shoes kind of balance it out.

I do have flat black sandals but they are not the most flattering to my lower leg but useful sometimes with short shorts. Aside from this my black footwear is heeled which I think is the wrong vibe with this dress.

The jeans are overdyed dark blue but absolutely look black in this pic.

Sal, if your flat black sandals are not flattering to your lower leg then don't. I have the same issue! I know exactly the type of problem and it's not your legs, of that you can be sure. some flat sandals do not work with certain hems, period. Have you thought of a taupe or nude color bootie for this dress? or even an open tow heeled bootie?

I have taupe boots, cognac sandal boots, tan flat sandals and pewter slides - and white sneakers....

I will have an experiment - because it is so bold and crisp I thought I needed a clear colour for the shoes.

Yes black flat sandals are hard to wear...maybe I should just pass them on.

Ah, summer! My favorite is the second outfit with the kimono. It looks like those slides will be workhorses.

I love your Etro style chevron dress (#6?) the best, and think the silver shoes work just fine! I envy that you are into summer, just as we are having our first dusting of snow.

Is that a David Austen rose? I understand that they grow very well in Oz and Nz. We get a few in Canada, but they don't have it easy...even in what we call 'the banana belt'.

Thanks Joy - yes the slides will be!! I debuted them this day as we were in and out of 10 home taking shoes on and off.... Definitely useful with my life:)

Carla - yes they are David Austin. One is Glamis Castle. My Mum has better roses than me, but I do Graham Thomas well. Our weather is a bit humid and wet - Christchurch has the best roses in NZ and they can also grow peonies - my personal favourite - it is too warm here for them.

Thanks Shevia - I am not used to wearing collars any more and have been actively avoiding them for a couple of years. But on a hot day this shirt will be great - I can even lift the collar up, wear the hat in the first photo and stay covered. It made me laugh when Jon said he really liked this look when I was very doubtful about it from a fashion perspective.

You had a fabulous week with lots of colour and variety.
My favourite is the shorts outfit. Love the hat and the boho-ish top. Very stylish way to wear shorts. Closely followed by the flares and chevron dress. How I love chevron.
I would try the chevron dress with the slides or nude shoes. Why not?
It looks warmer there than it is here. We have had a coolish Spring (not that I’m complaining!)

I cannot pick a favorite! All lovely, fresh , interesting outfits! (Nr. 2 made me smile because it's very similar to an outfit I have been repeating a lot lately - black tee, floral bomber, jeans. I can't get tired of that). I like very much the Chevron dress with the silver shoes. I find this combination very unexpected and intersting.

The roses are delightful !

Thanks Brooklyn - my boho side comes out a bit more in summer. And our weather has been all over the place. I will experiment with the chevron dress - I do like it but it is not a natural piece for me to style.

Sisi- thank you. The kimono comes out regularly and it is great to dress up a very basic look - your outfit sounds lovely with the floral bomber.

Thank you Angie - My favourite was the teal dress and the flares. The teal dress is a one of those things that looks better in real life than in a photo (especially one of average quality).

Aida - we share a love for mixing older pieces in. They are all a mix of old and new except 5- where they are all new (and the most boring in my opinion).

I am trying to be a bit more experimental at the moment - the flares in response to Angie's blog, trying the chevron and silver (I think that can be repeated) and wearing the collared shirt differently to how I imagined (over my bikini at the beach). When I get dressed I am consciously thinking that it does not matter if I don't immediately love the outfit - and seeing how I feel as the day goes on. November is a month where it is still not too hot so I can be more open - some looks here will stick

1 2 3 6 7 - I will repeat.
4 - I don't like the jacket, tee, bag - too bunchy.
5 - maybe it needed the hat from 1 to make it feel a bit more interesting to me.

I think they’re all great. I have a preference for the first boho/70s batch of pics #1-3. I can see the chevron dress skewing boho too, with some wedges, hat, no cardi. The new slides are fabulous.
About #4 : not the first time you don’t like yourself in a moto, even they look good on you, maybe you should avoid them in the future?

Thanks Smittie! Yes I think I mix it up - but I often repeat outfits too.

Skylurker - thanks - I have been thinking about that as I did comment over winter my struggles with a red leather jacket. I think I do not match my jackets to my tops very well and am perhaps a little too thrifty on jackets. I feel one jacket should work with a myriad of tops but that is not actually very realistic.

And thanks - that dress might just work with some wedges I have and a hat - I will experiment on a hot sunny day.

Bijou - the slides are great. I do have small blister but that is common for me. Rollies - they make great lace ups too I am told!!

Harmonica and Lisa- the floral kimono look is my favourite along with the last one.

I have been regretting posting pics 4 and 5 as I really don't like them. But they have taught me a few things about my style. To me these looks have no bold touches which make me happy - something to think about in the future. While 7 is also a quieter look in reality it is a bit more dreamy and elegant.

So I need to keep that Bold Elegant style statement to the front of my mind!!

Sal have you tried a longer lightweight (or very lightweight) top/tank under the olive jacket in outfit #4? I think perhaps the hemline length similarity makes for a significantly less bold look; with a longer top underneath you could also add a long dramatic necklace.

Aida - I think you are right. I usually wear a longer black tank under this jacket, or wear it over a dress.... I think the jacket/top combo is a bit of a fail - I might do a jacket lab in the weekend - try on my summer jackets with my tops and find out some winners!!
